Billy Corgan, frontman for The Smashing Pumpkins has compared what he calls ‘social justice warriors’ to the Ku Klux Klan, in an interview with radio host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. During the interview Corgan lashed out at the ‘hashtag generation,’ saying they were a threat to freedom of speech.
Corgan then agreed with Jones when he likened them to a cult, adding "the only thing that's going to adjust their ideological fixation is reality.” "I'm horrified as somebody who believes in free speech and is an artist, because those people are gonna be coming for me,” he continued.
“It may not be tomorrow, but it's soon enough because I said the wrong thing on the wrong day because I was tired and I didn't take my X2 that day, or whatever… To live where every word is a land mine — you know what I'm saying — it's not the world I want to live in.”
Jones went on to say that 'social justice warriors' would shout down anyone they disagreed with purely out of hate, describing them as "literally like a dumb Klan guy that just pulls over on some black guy walking home from work and kills him 'cause they're black.”

Whatever one might think about the people being referred to, let's have a bit of a reality check here: Shouting down someone for something which they have said is not quite the same thing as killing someone for merely existing.
For anyone to call that comparison "the best part" and "right on" suggests... well, I guess we could use the word hatred in that case too. But I think it would be nicer, and probably more accurate, to simply call it a lack of perspective in both cases.
The long walk that eventually leads to genocide is taken one step at a time. "Identifying" and then redefining the group to be attacked is the among the first steps.
Silencing the opposing view points is right there as well. If your goal is to redefine the opponent, first eliminate his ability to define himself. Shouting him down is one method in this.
Thanks, you just gave me another reason to dislike Billy Corgan besides his ****ty band and singing.
Fair point, but the inner motivation of each is not all that different. It still stems from "hate".Whatever one might think about the people being referred to, let's have a bit of a reality check here: Shouting down someone for something which they have said is not quite the same thing as killing someone for merely existing.

You don't know what you're talking about, you're just parroting stereotypesNot a Smashing Pumpkins fan either but Corgan is right on the money.
" Social Justice Warriors " are usually just Socialist and or advocates of authoritarian Socialist iniatives.
They're usually just hard core left ideologues who support egalitarianism over individualism and who view the Constitution as a obstacle that needs to be overcome.
Are you talking about the apparent hatefulness which Alex Jones (well spotted Mason, didn't notice that) has against 'social justice warriors,' or that he ascribes to them?
For my part, I'd tend to be a bit cautious about declaring some kind of knowledge regarding other folk's "inner motivation" as a general rule, let alone something as unpleasant and absolute as hatred - and let alone when the only clear defining attribute we're discussing here is 'social justice'! Agree with it or not, since when was that a hateful thing?
I honestly don't know what it is about some people's minds that somehow manages to turn an otherwise decent if not laudable principle or value into a dirty word, merely because a fraction of the advocates for that principle go over the top and use disagreeable tactics. It's like all that "PC police" bull**** and folks' decision, somehow, that supporting decent standards of public exchange suddenly became a bad thing: Some kind of knee-jerk reactionary tendency which manages to produce as much or more labeling and shrill hyperbole as the fringe examples being criticised in the first place! This thread likening shouting someone down to murder being a prime example
Please explain what is decent or laudable about social justice.

I've never even heard of Billy Corgan before, and I already like him. This was the best part:

"Hate" is overused, and more often than not mis-used. It has degenerated into nothing more than an attempt to shame a person with an opposing point-of-view into silence, with no regard whatsoever as to the deeper points of the other person's thoughts or positions or reasons. It is not as rare as you are trying to portray it.Are you talking about the apparent hatefulness which Alex Jones (well spotted Mason, didn't notice that) has against 'social justice warriors,' or that he ascribes to them?

If anything should be free from politics, it should be the quality of one's music.I notice you seem to criticize any musician as "****ty", if they don't toe the leftist line. Just out of curiosity, what is your criteria for "talented musician"?
Smashing pumpkins suck dude they've always been a pussified band, Minor-threat, Dead Kennedys, Fugazi, social distortion. and Motörhead. That's the stuff I'm into. And the problem with this term is the usual problem with all snarl words: it's used to discredit/smear ANYONE who dares to criticize the social status quo in terms of gender and race relations.I notice you seem to criticize any musician as "****ty", if they don't toe the leftist line. If an individual song is intended to make a political statement, then it's fair game, but otherwise no. If a musician is politically outspoken, then they're fair game, but not their music.
you'd really hate the dead Kennedys.
