Sitcom Citizen Khan has mixed reviews (1 Viewer)

Typical silly post from you. You absolutely can't stand anybody having a different opinion than you, so you resort to bull**** like the above. Congratulations. You managed to turn a thread about television programs into your typical attack dog approach.

Your comparison between the two programs was asinine. Unless, of course, you don't understand the difference between comedy and drama....oh wait a minute, you don't, do you?

We should give him a break. I'm sure he is only offering the opinions The Guardian has approved for him.

Well, there is that.

Comparing the two is like comparing 'Some Like it Hot' with 'The Godfather'. Both very good films - one an amusing comedy, the other a drama.

And, of course, the tales will be told later in this thread that it was the big, bad American who made things personal.

Pot, meet kettle.

Found it.
I watched, not brilliant (or Fawlty Towers), a bit weak IMO but a few smiles.
You decide.

One of the differences between our countries is that when we say "Asian", we tend to refer to the majority of Asians who are most definitely not Islamic. The term "Asian" here evokes people who are mostly Buddhist, Taoist, Shinto, and such.

We distinguish by using "East Asia" or "Far East" when referring to those distinct areas of Asia.

It's nowhere near as offensive as Father Ted was to Irish Catholicism. Nowhere near as funny either. There must be some sort of correlation betwen the two in comedy.

I kept waiting for it to get really funny but I suppose the nearest thing you could compare it to as BenK notes is "Father Ted."

700 complaints apparently - nearly all seem to be about it mocking Islam or promoting stereotypes or being disrespectful of the koran. Worse still, 20 have made official complaints to Ofcom which triggers an investigation of the BBC. I hope the 700 complaints were that it wasn't funny enough but I think in reality, the fact it wasn't funny enough allowed hyper sensitive types to focus on and then complain about the characters of the show.

Strange. In truth it fails as black comedy where "Father Ted" and "Four Lions" or even "Goodness Gracious Me" succeeded, I found it OK but it certainly could have taken more risks and poked even harder humour at the muslim community and some of the real stereotypes that exist.

"Four Lions" and "Goodness Gracious Me" were more cutting edge but were popular across muslim and non-muslim culture here because they were funnier.
