Sinjar has been liberated from ISIS, Kurds say

"The leader of Iraqi Kurds declared Friday that the Iraqi town of Sinjar has been liberated from ISIS militants.

The victory in Sinjar is a milestone that will contribute to an eventual liberation of the ISIS-occupied Iraqi city of Mosul, said Masoud Barzani, leader of the Kurdish Regional Government in Iraq........"

This is a important development because occupying Sinjar cuts ISIS supply line and makes them vulnerable to the loss of income and supplies they need to prosecute the war

Will Turkey support these Kurds? Will Saudi Arabia and Qatar stop funding ISIS? Perhaps Barzani should request Russian airstrikes to coordinate the assault on Mosul?

Devastation greets Kurdish forces entering Sinjar

The Kurds estimated that there were almost 600 IS militants in Sinjar before the offensive began. The coalition said they believed some 60 to 70 had been killed in Thursday's air strikes.

Obama strategy of bringing in the regional players while keeping a small footprint is paying dividends .

Would you just stop. Obama's plan is to appease them and get out of their way and let other countries fight our fight for us. The Pentagon probably has to beg him for the right to make every small attack.

The Turks have been at some form of conflict/war/genocide with the Kurds.....
war for more than I can remember..........

Interestingly there is a faction in Saudi Arabia who are helping to fund ISIS for reasons I am not aware of.....and without fear of sanctions from the royal family........I sure don't know or know any source that can explain it.........

As far as what the principles may do.....or align themselves whoever..........I have no idea other than observe...........it is a forking mess without any solution IMO.........you cannot destroy a religious belief with bombs and bullets.......... To take out Assad will leave the ME with another power vacuum as was taking down Saddam..........Now the Russians are there in numbers and military gear and the risk of world war has become a real possibility.......... Not to mention the sectarian violence of killing other who believe other than the other has been going on for (as I recall) some 1000 + years...........

It is a problem without solution........

Obama has the best but un stated policy...........Containment..........and if folks knew that was the US policy for the Middle East there would cause a whole lot od pain and outrage that would bring any form of doing anything in government impossible until the end of his term...........
Many folks from the GOP and RW fault Obama for the mess..........yet none of them have any constructive ideas/solutions......Just sniping from the gutter by the Ne'er Do Wells of Congress and RW media..........

How do define appease? And what examples of Obama appeasement....... who was appeased .......And by what means?

I would be interested in knowing more fully your viewpoint..........

Is it our fight because we completely ****ed up the region and opened the floodgates or is it our fight because you want us to be the policemen of the world?

At this point, in consideration of the fact the local regions have the hardware and manpower to take on ISIS themselves (should they be so willing), and of course taking into account Russia's interest in removing ISIS, an extremely clear case should be made for the interests that are served in the United States becoming fully involved.

Sorry that the facts of the matter don't fit your "conservative" agenda. Obama has really shined in bringing pressure to bear on ISIS from all fronts. Stroke of genius.

Good God, you people will ingest anything thrown your way.

Shined?

- He wasted millions of Dollars on a failed "training" regime.
- The humanitarian crisis is now on a biblical scale.
- Russia is now the key player in the region.
- He has put little to no pressure on Turkey to support the Kurds.
- The Anbar region of Iraq is in disarray, this a region where a large number of Americans died in order to rid it of extremists during the Iraq war.

If you think any of the above is a stroke of genius then you head your head checked mate.

Gosh, that could take hours that I don't have.

He won't even call terrorism what it is. Wouldn't call the attack at Fort Hood terrorism. Same for the attack on Charlie Hebdo. Won't call the Taliban terrorists. He's more assertive and outspoken toward Israel than he is ISIS. He ignores every deadline and red line he puts forth with Iran, Syria, etc. He trades Gitmo terrorists for turncoat soldiers 5-to-1.

Obama wants to be neutral altogether on terrorism. He considers it all a police matter.

I'll say it again. Given the **** storm he inherited. Obama has done the best possible job of dealing with the circumstances he inherited and has been brilliant in dealing with ISIS in particular. I am a little disappointed with how he's handled Afghanistan where he made the mistake of listening to the Generals.

Laughable.

How many ISIS members have been arrested vs blown up by drones or 500# bombs? When police start attacking criminals with drones and bombs then you'll have a point.

Hey Obama...take note! This is the kind of good things that can happen when you ****ing take action!

This could also be a step closer towards linking together Kurdish enclaves in Iraq and Syria also.
