Since the topic of legalizing marijuana came up, we should discuss another "illegal" activity...
Should prostitution be legal?
I'm guessing prostitution has been made illegal by silly ol' outdated Christian values, anyways, so why not? Isn't it time America got with the program?Since the topic of legalizing marijuana came up, we should discuss another "illegal" activity...

Agree 99.9%Bah, everyone knows my opinion on this but I believe that laws against all victimless crimes, including drug use of all kinds, are nothing more than Law Enforcement Employment Security Acts. Prohibition never works. History has taught us that. Education works. Tobacco use has gone from 60-70% of the population decades ago down to a small fraction of that. Legalize, regulate, educate.
Of course prostitution should be legal. As with drugs, legalizing prostitution assures cleaner, safer environment for both prostitutes and their clients. Prostitution-driven crime plummets... who needs a pimp when performing a perfectly legal service? Of course, vice officers will be twiddling their thumbs, so that isn't going to happen.
Adults have the absolutely right to decide what to do with their bodies, what to ingest in their bodies, whether it's healthy or not. Educate hell out of the population, use license fees and drug taxes to fund low-cost rehabilitation facilities, and help drug users in the same manner we now help alcoholics and those addicted to tobacco. Provide programs, support and assistance.

True, and the present laws do nothing to help this.Absolutely not. The commercialization and commoditization of sex is inherently degrading and dehumanizing and our society is already rife with the problems that come from viewing our families and communities as disposable conveniences.

Instead we should face life as it is, not as we wish it to be.
Or do you really think that prohibition works ?
If we legalize prostitution, the amount of tax revenue could pay off our national debt within a few years.

Politicians don't want legal competition though
Until the late 80s Wallace Idaho had a legal house of prostitution and gambling, slot machines in bars etc. It was legal in that the cops just didn't arrest anybody but then the Feds came in and shut everything down. The madam was very generous and donated money to buy the HS football team uniforms and to other good causes. It was a clean, safe and well run bordello. They checked out every customer for VD so you felt fairly at ease going there. It was a right of passage in those days and many 18 year old kids lost their virginity there as a BD gift from buddies. Beats the Hell out of the sleazy crack whores that people frequent in downtown Spokane these days.
Why did it close? There is no federal law against prostitution (other than transportation across state lines).
