IDK what kind of precedent Utah sets for pleading down murder charges, but I for one think that life without parole is actually a tougher sentence than death. Gives the sentenced more time to think about what they've done.

Other - what makes you think that he’d be offered that plea ‘deal’ by the state or federal governments?

His lawyers will probably advocate for life without parole, as it seems pretty clear at this point Robinson's guilty. Feels like possibility of a hung jury is pretty low.

He should sit tight and watch the FBI screw up the prosecutions case by beaking off in the media.

Here's what I've been wondering- what's the Feds and the FBI got to do with a straight-forward murder case in Utah?

Because they can forgo a trial If Robinson takes a plea deal for the lesser sentence. Trials are costly, and so is the enormous costs of carrying out the Death Penalty.

Also, Robinson has a massive mitigating factor in his back pocket. He's had zero arrests and zero convictions. It will be an easy task for his lawyer(s) to get a Life sentence instead of a death sentence for Robinson.

He should do whatever his lawyers and he think best. My personal opinion based on the information at hand is that he committed a heinous crime for which he should pay. However I am not supportive of the death penalty so rotting in jail for the rest of his life works for me.

Unless they get creative (e.g. a hate crime or ’domestic terrorism’) a federal charge seems unlikely. It’s not uncommon for the FBI or BATFE to help in ‘high profile’ state/local cases.

Not really fair for me to answer as I oppose capital punishment.

Should the state accept that, then yes, he has that right.

If you're asking if he would want to die 60 years in max security or 5 years at the hands of a firing squad, then this would be a good poll.

If it is the shooter and he is convicted after a fair trial, he should be in jail for the rest of his life regardless of what he pleads.

I am against the death sentence for religious reasons.

A death penalty sentence would provide him with a far nicer, and likely longer term, incasrceration.

Besides, the death penalty will be banned eventually. The majority of Americans are not enjoying being a part of this cabal...

Suppose it's up to him if he wants to sit the rest of his days, because he doesn't want to die himself(though he didn't afford someone else that option); or if he just wants to get it over with.

Kind of impartial on 'good riddance', or let him sit with no freedom. Killed someone that he viewed as wanting to take freedom, and now he has none.

Seems the squad is secondary/special circumstance

My guess would be that the state will not make that offer unless the family agrees to ask for life in prison instead?
If he would get the death penalty it would probably be 10 to 15 years after all the appeals before the sentence would be carried out.

There hasn’t even been an attorney assigned to him yet.

Which is wild.

I think the death penalty is bad.

He should plead guilty (assuming he is in fact guilty which seems pretty clear) because that's the right thing to do.
Utah should not execute him because that's also the right thing to do.
I guess that's as close to a win-win as one can hope for, when we're talking about a shocking assassination.

Depends how good his lawyer is (when he gets one). Seems the FBI and now Utah officials are putting out so much "evidence" that the case has already been severely tainted.

He should do whatever he thinks is best. Such a brave man can surely face life in prison or possibly the death penalty. Doesn't Utah use the firing squad?

I think that Tyler Robinson will have the best legal team. Their job is so simple. All his legal team needs to do is make a plea-deal for a reduced (Life) sentence.

They can use the fact that he has no prior arrests or convictions as leverage (mitigating factors). Any judge would be compelled to impose the lesser sentence.
