Should Florida ban other political parties?

Should Florida ban other political parties?

There is no way this law would be constitutional.

Let them pass it an look like fools.
You can't pass a bill that any sane Governor will veto.

Just because some idiot state Republican came up with a ridiculous bill, it does not mean that any Congress would pass it.

Personally I think this is cartoon villain level silliness. Banning opposition political parties is stuff we only see in authoritarian countries.

Do you support this?
The fact that they would even utter the idea is extremely alarming.

Actually here in Florida our insane Governor can get anything he wants passed in a day. If he wanted this bill it would be law tomorrow and if the Florida courts ruled it unConstitutional (which it is) the governor could get a bill passed to fire all the judges and install his own.

This is purely a “Whatabout” bill from the Florida fascist MAGA Republicans, pardon the redundancy.

The MAGA Republicans have said the bill is payback for Democrats taking away rights and privileges from citizens and businesses in the past.

No, the bill is not how democracy works but neither are DeSantis and his fascist supporters.

Why would your esteemed and beloved governor (according to the voters) be stupid enough to allow such a law to be passed?
Do you believe, as smart as he has been, he would be dumb enough to pass a law that is unconstitutional and embarrassing to his party?
Tell me, do you think he got to where he is because he is ignorant of smart politics?

I don't think he will get this law passed. It is an absurd law. I was commenting on his power over our legislature something that makes him all powerful and immune from the checks and balances that make our democracy function. It reminds me of a similar situation in India.

I don't believe DeSantis is the first, or even the last, executive with complete legislative control to take advantage of his position and try to pass laws that, realistically, will cement the GOP position in Florida.

There is a difference to what an executive CAN do and what is reasonable and acceptable to the people to do.
He is not dumb and he knows he as to tread lightly if he is going to seduce the American public with his brand of Conservatism.

"Cementing" is a authoritarian goal. Is that what you want for all of America? It sure seems that way. You believe that DeSantis will indoctrinate Florida's children so they will no longer believe in democracy? I think that is as absurd as banning the Democratic party. It is likely to have the opposite effect.

It makes sense, Florida is run by a autocratic strongman wannabe.

Yes, the Democrats are evil.

Everybody knows that.

Although, the irony of this is that the Democrats controlled a one party state. So, I can't help but think there is a warning in there somewhere.
This statement right here is indicative of the problem with people like you. If it was the other way around, and someone was calling Republicans evil, you would be up in arms. Based on the fact that you only want one major party, you are clearly against Democracy. When your party loses, it is supposed to taste like a shit taco. If you don't like it, you have 3 options.

1. Get into politics yourself
2. Vote
3. Bitch and moan

I guess we know which choice you chose.

It is akin to the abortion, drag queen, marriage license, and other culture war bills Trumplican legislators are currently flinging out in various states like monkeys flinging poo - outrageous and they know it, but hoping it exhausts sane people and something eventually sticks.

This is all about sending voters down a rabbit hole so they will not know where they are. It is as confusing as hell when our Governor says he does not want policies "jammed down our throat" while he jams HIS policies down our throat.

"Cementing" can have positive connotations if it results in positive outcomes. Of course, in this case, if DeSantis had a "D" after his name we probably would not be having this exchange. But since he is a very popular GOP presidential hopeful AND since the Dems have nothing going for them in 2024 besides a Biden/Harris ticket, your antipathy toward DeSantis is understandable.

And the idea of a popular governor indoctrinating children to not believe in democracy is ridiculous. Like Russia convincing the world that Ukraine invaded Russia and Russia is simply defending itself against the "Nazification" of Ukraine.

The point is that if he had a D after his name he would not come up with anything as stupid and authoritarian as banning a political party.

I mean, the origin of the Democrat Party is in the support of slavery, as the man said...so, anyone on the Left worth his salt should be in favor of canceling them. And, we know the US is systemically white supremacist, and all of our systems are systemically oppressive, and that includes the two major political parties. Let's get rid of them both, because they are tools of whiteness, racism, colonialism and systemicoppressipatriarchalphobia....
That isn't what this is about.
They want to purge every Democrat from office. I don't like it. I don't like when the left is trying to bring Fox to its knees and I most certainly don't like this fascist attempt to divert democracy into something that is unrecognizable.

Who in their right mind would want to vote for a fascists?

Well the Democrats that advocated for slavery weren’t Democrats, in the true sense of the word. 150 years ago, Democrats were very much for slavery, and before the party switch, would have been today’s Republicans.

So tired of people who don’t even understand 5th grade American History.

To answer the OP, of course we shouldn’t ban other political parties. I’d be surprised if this was coming from any state other than Florida.

His brand is Wacky. Just look at our Surgeon General if you don't believe me. Then there the flying of Venezuelan refugees from Texas to Mass. and letting them out in the cold with no coats. Don't even mention his election police and attacking our largest employer either...The wacky never ends... That seems to fly with Floridians but we are a special breed with wacky in our blood. Must be the hurricanes..

Yes.

I support it.

100%

The MAGAT controlled Legislature of Florida should ban all non MAGAT controlled Political Parties from the State.

Florida needs to be that shining "city upon a hill."

For all America!

Sorry, but I can’t answer a poll like this. Only an idiot could do it with a straight face. 😆

They absolutely should ban the Democratic party. It worked so well in Germany in the 1930s.

Seriously, this is another way to lower voter turnout. That is critical to the GOP strategy.
