I don't think anyone said that all cops are bad people or would disagree that many cops are good people. The point is that cops do often act far too aggressively. Take this for example. You know why I think they should have cameras? To prevent people from calling them executioners. Like I've seen repeatedly on this board.
I know many cops and they are good people. There has been too much generalization about them on here. I call it like I see it.

Cop Pointing Rifle At Ferguson Protestors: "I Will ****ing Kill You"
To read this thread, it sounds like all 900,000 cops in this country are out of control, bad people who need us watching them constantly with our big brothers.
I hope nobody who thinks they are so awful ever plans to call them in a time of need.
We have a few teachers that do bad things. Let's put cameras on all teachers. We have few fast food workers who urinate in the dishwashers and drop burgers on the floor. Lets make all fast food workers wear cameras. We have a few babysitters who hurt the children in their charge. Let's make all babysitters, nannies and day care workers wear cameras. We have a few mailmen who were caught tossing out mail. Let's make all mailmen wear cameras and have them mounted in their trucks.
FFS. The level of paranoia is amazing.
Agreed, some people take the extreme that either "all cops are bad and evil", or "all cops are as honest and pure as the driven snow". Neither is accurate.I'm saying that some people are making it out, here and in other threads, that cops are vile, evil, non-trustworthy people.
I don't know why anyone would want to be a cop in this country. It's pathetic the way people are acting like all 300+ million of us have a reason to fear them.
That's my assessment of the crap I've read for 5 days on here.
Sunil Dutta, a 17-year veteran of the Los Angeles Police Department and professor of homeland security at Colorado Tech University, has a suggestion for victims of police violence searching for someone to blame: Look in the mirror.
In a column published Tuesday in The Washington Post titled, "I’m a cop. If you don’t want to get hurt, don’t challenge me," Dutta responds to mounting criticism of the policing tactics on display in Ferguson, Missouri, amid the hyper-militarization of law enforcement and accusations that officers have violated the First Amendment rights of both demonstrators and journalists covering the events. In a particularly telling passage, Dutta argues that citizens could deter police brutality if they were simply more cooperative, even when they're unjustly targeted.
"Even though it might sound harsh and impolitic, here is the bottom line: if you don’t want to get shot, tased, pepper-sprayed, struck with a baton or thrown to the ground, just do what I tell you," he writes. "Don’t argue with me, don’t call me names, don’t tell me that I can’t stop you, don’t say I’m a racist pig, don’t threaten that you’ll sue me and take away my badge. Don’t scream at me that you pay my salary, and don’t even think of aggressively walking towards me. Most field stops are complete in minutes. How difficult is it to cooperate for that long?"
[/B]Veteran Cop: 'If You Don't Want To Get Shot,' Shut Up -- Even If We're Violating Your Rights
This cop is an idiot. This sets up a situation where they can take away our freedoms and the only downfall for the bad cops is an insurance payment or courtsettlement. Basically let cops do wrong to you and accept a payment later, assuming they dont bury you under false reports.

You said many yourself, but if you want to change it to most, okay. Doesn't change my argument, nor does it make it necessary to put cameras on everyone. Why such a claim is idiotic has already been addressed by multiple posters.Put a camera on everyone who has had someone else, somewhere, in the same line of business, who committed a bad deed.
MOST cops are good people, not "many". Most.

Should the entire population fear them? "Fear" might be a bit hyperbolic, but the fact remains that there are indeed bad no-good cops out there, and people should always be wary simply because at any given interaction you flat-out don't know whether you'll get a good one or a bad one. The stakes are too high to be too trusting.
Hmmm, you sure you're libertarian, I don't recall the last time I saw a libertarian say something decent about most cops. It's one thing (along with others) that keep me from identifying as libertarian (though there are aspects of it that definitely resonate with me). I don't hate cops or celebrate when they get hurt or killed. I've seen a few libertarians actually do that.
Such fail. I don't know where to start. Anyway, I'll give it a shot, though I don't expect much from such close-mindedness. Two points...Yeah, they put on a badge and they cease being human and it's never the other persons attitude that comes into play, is it? It's the cops fault all the time. Bull****. I deal with cops all the time and I have no fear of them, but then I'm not looking to bash them. Do let me know if you ever hear of a cop doing something that meets with your approval.

Those are the assholes that drive away people from becoming libertarian.
Totally right, CP and totally not fair for me to hold those few against the majority of libertarians, so sincere apologies for that. I was in sarcasm hyperdrive this morning. We all have our assholes.

That's right, you said many. Excuse me for reading what you wrote and assuming it is what you meant.I never said any such thing. What I said was:
I know many cops and they are good people
That appears to be where you are confused.
I have repeatedly said MOST cops are good people.
