Decent normal Americans would agree. I also understand this is not a criminal proceeding and therefore "due process" would not apply. However, Americans like fairness and believe everyone ought to have the opportunity to defend themselves. Americans already oppose impeachment but leftists are headed in that direction. This will more than likely backfire on the left.

They have no one to blame but their own stupidity.

Wrong decade. Once the Nazis passed legislation stripping Jews of citizenship, they didn't need courts @ all to do anything to the Jews.

Well, the House resolution yesterday explicitly allows for the President and his counsel to participate in the impeachment hearings, and that will also be the case, should the House impeach, for the trial in the Senate, where that trial will be run by the President's presumed allies in the GOP. And in that case, at least 19 Republicans will have to vote for removal.

So the President will have multiple ways to defend himself. He's preventing his supposed allies in the WH, and Rudy, from testifying on his behalf. He could release them and we can hear from them under oath. I'm also positive the House and Senate would happily put Trump under oath so he can testify on his own behalf, on TV, before the American public. He can also effectively command the networks to cover any statement he wants to make not under oath, orally or written, and broadcast that to the world. So how do you get the idiotic idea Trump is prevented from defending himself in these proceedings?

There were no Jewish courts in 1940s Nazi Germany. Jews were rounded up and taken to the camps without any judicial action beforehand.

Actually more Americans agree with impeachment than do not. And so far the rules used have been those set by the President's party, so you are saying that the investigation into Clinton was also unfair? Also the rules pretty much follow those used in the Clinton impeachment. And it may backfire on the Dems, but in reality, they are going against political wisdom to do what they and as I said more Americans than not think should be done. You may not like it, but it does show some moral backbone, something none of the GOPers in Congress have shown.
