The man burned in an arson attack at a Denny's restaurant last week is on life support, his family said Monday night.
An agency spokesman previously said the attack appears to be random and is not being investigated as a hate crime.

A Union City man has been charged with multiple counts for attempting to light diners on fire inside a Denny's restaurant in Hayward, according to police.
The man, identified as 43-year-old Victor Rubio, was eating at a Denny's on Industrial Parkway SW Wednesday morning when he whipped out a container similar to lighter fluid and doused several people, including a child, sitting inside the restaurant, police said.
Rubio escaped temporarily before being arrested without incident by arriving officers, police said. He was placed on a psychiatric hold.

First there was the knockout game. Then the robbery & rape game. Now there appears to be a new trend in urban past times; setting people on fire at Denny's.
Hallelujah! No hate crime occurred, and the attack was 'random', as we all know how common it is to be set on fire at Denny's 'randomly'. Phew.
And from my hometown...
And I thought Waffle House was bad.Police are saying a third attack has happened at a movie theater on the West Coast.Any thoughts for why these attacks occurred?
Is there an actual increase in this kind of attack or is this just the media decided to make a theme of it this week? In general, I’d expect this kind of thing targeting strangers would either involve mental illness or gang initiations and shows of “strength”. Either cause could pick up on a trend, be it real or a media invention.Any thoughts for why these attacks occurred? Police are saying a third attack has happened at a movie theater on the West Coast.

Evil people will do evil things, for any reason. Crazy people will do crazy things for no reason, also known as covfefe to them.
Seriously though. Hate crime? I hate that term. No crime involving assault or attempted murder ever occurred out of love they were all hate crimes. Why a person would harm another like that is beyond me. The depravity that must exist in that person makes them a danger to society, and they should be removed from society as quickly and for as long as possible.
Dunno about these being the only urban past times- here in Oklahoma white supremacists seem to still partake of the tried and true killing black folks. guess we are behind the times.
The new trend seems to be attacking folks who look Muslim (some dummies confuse Indian for Muslim) of late I seem to remember a white supremacist attacking a couple of girls and when three men tried to stop him the smuck killed two of the men and wounded the third.
Perhaps a wider view would see there are more 'urban trends' about...eace
The white supremacist also said he hated Christians, and that he was a nihilist.

Really? How does this appear to be a trend? Two data points isn't much to hang your hat on.
Did you memorize his speech, or what?
A third case happened at a theater in Oregon.
Last I checked, a theater isn't a Denny's.
The white supremacist also said he hated Christians, and that he was a nihilist. No one on the train objected to what he said about Christians. He also never attacked the girls, one of whom was black and not a Muslim, the other was wearing a headscarf. He used derogatory language towards them, which caused the 3 men to confront him. He's not going to be ruled mentally competent to stand trial.
Last I checked, a theater isn't a Denny's.
nice dodge but still no cigar as they say. You seem to avoid certain 'urban' attacks for the ones you want to grind on. We had country boys roaming Tulsa to target urban dwellers of a certain race- you must have missed that.
You don't seem to understand attack is more than contact. He didn't seem to make a difference between the girls, just like another not so 'urban' man attacked Sikhs thinking they were Muslim.
You dwell on only the troubles you wish to pout about...eace
I was just correcting erroneous statements about the case, not about stories I'm unaware of. The only story from Oklahoma that was an undeclared hate crime that I can remember, is this; 'Bored' Oklahoma teen gets life in prison for killing Australian baseball player
Unfortunately, that's a legitimate question. Is there an actual increase in this kind of attack or is this just the media decided to make a theme of it this week? In general, I’d expect this kind of thing targeting strangers would either involve mental illness or gang initiations and shows of “strength”. Either cause could pick up on a trend, be it real or a media invention.
These are clearly very serious incidents but given the overall number is still very small in the grand scheme of things I don’t really see the need to make a huge issue out of it. Such inadvertent glorification could actually inspire more attacks. Hopefully the relevant law enforcement can quickly catch the perpetrators and the appropriate measures are taken to prevent them from re-offending.
Ahhh so you want to dwell on who gets tagged with hate crime and who doesn't and feel it's bigoted against white folks???
Duncan OK is about 50 miles away from here, a friend of mine went to school with two of the boys- it got a lot more coverage than a Faux noise blurb around here. Fact is it wasn't a hate crime, those boys (a mixed race group BTW) weren't out hunting Whitey but rather bored and stupid.
Now England and Watts committed hate crimes- they went out hunting black men to kill Tulsa and not just one because they were bored...
Wade Page killed 6 and wounded 4 Sikhs in their place of Worship up Wisconsin way- now THAT is a hate crime...
See the difference between your grumbling over labels in 'urban settings'... and what are real hate crimes...eace
England is native American I believe. So how does that fit your narrative? Here are the 3 that were charged in the supposed 'boredom' killing of an Australian national. These men look black to me.
