Set Trump Aside?

I actually like the idea of a popular vote for President, with a runoff election between the two candidates who got the larges percentages of votes.

If POTUS were elected on straight popular vote then candidates would spend all their time in their own strong areas, driving up their totals.

That's true. There isn't any one system of government that gets everything right. In fact, from what I can tell, a good government is one that solves a few more problems than it causes, and I don't think our current system of electing our President does that.
