As much as Trump can be said to resemble Hitler in the way he attacked various groups — Hitler had Jews and Gypsies, Trump has Muslims and migrants, it’s almost always bad to go Hitler. Despite his apocalyptic rhetoric, Trump is a milder sort of fascist type, more Franco - like. To be fair, I have compared Jan 6 to Adolf’s attempted beer hall putsch in Munich, and Trump’s suggestion that we “take out the families” of terrorists resembles the collective punishment the Nazis did in occupied Europe in response to bombings and assassinations. But as I have posted, Trump is more of a combo of Mussolini and Foghorn Leghorn, wanting to restore some previous greatness but unaware of how ridiculous he can look, splashing gold around the White House and holding cabinet meetings where his staff praise the Dear Leader, North Korea style.

IMO the comparison isnt about the same level of power or evil.

It's about a similar talent of getting people to follow him, unquestioningly, reeled in, seeking to grasp power on his coattails, feeling special and superior, elevated ABOVE others as they're being told by TACO, and reveling in the 2nd hand power in deprecating and vilifying others..."they are special in his eyes." It's disturbing, as it should be, right?

And now that he's back in the WH, he is starting to wield that power autocratically, pushing his limits to answer to no one and using intimidation and threats...we'll have to see where that goes.

Trump is not Hitler and Republicans are not NAZI’s.

Acknowledging that is NOT the same thing as stating history has examples of human behavior that can be drawn upon as to teach us how to avoid pitfalls that have caused us harm in the past.

The examples within history that can be seen in Hitler and NAZIism are these:

That the answers to complex human problems are never in “strong men” politics with easy answers that promote hate and distrust of “the other” as the dumb, simple, responses to those complex questions that plague us.

That fascism is not a proper political response to anything. It makes things worse, not better.

That oligarchy bends towards fascism, as oligarchy believes in authoritarianism, They believe their money makes them the authority as, surely, they wouldn’t be as rich as they are if they weren’t the smartest people in any room they find themselves in. Therefore they believe that, being smarter than the “strong man”, they can control him and use him to meet their ends. They are always wrong in that.

So don’t get it twisted. No one of any good sense is saying Trump is Hitler. They are suggesting there are things in that part of our recorded history that we can learn from to avoid repeating our past mistakes that apply to this time.

We are repeating trends from our past that lead to economic catastrophe, another Great Depression, in its economic misery a world ripe for the exploitation of political “strong men”, the rise of actual -real - Hitlers, and a fall into another World War.
