The mandate of the CDC, founded under the Public Health Service Act, is for general public health. This includes studying injury and safety concerns. What does the center for disease control have to do with gun crime?
The CDC’s mandate is with public health. This includes studying injury and safety concerns.
Former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, D-Ariz., who was shot in the head more than two years ago during a mass shooting in a Tucson parking lot, opened the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearing Wednesday with a call to action on gun violence.
"Speaking is difficult but I need to say something important," she said in a slow, deliberate voice to the dais of senators. "Violence is a big problem, too many children are dying, too many children. We must do something.
"Americans are counting on you," she said. - Senate gun hearing opens with Giffords' call for action
As I was reading the article I came across a perfect example of what I feel the problem is with the "gun restriction" crowed...
Giffords husband astronaut Mark Kelly, added this statement paraphrased...
"Called for legislators to close the loophole that allows private sellers to sell their guns without background checks, strengthen gun trafficking penalties for trafficking, and eliminate limitations on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to study gun violence.
He also called for "a careful and civil conversation about the lethality of the firearms we permit to be legally bought and sold."
What does the center for disease control have to do with gun crime? This should worry people as they are trying to use a completely unrelated government body to manufacture, yes manufacture another reason to strip our 2nd amendment rights.
The last highlighted statement is just beyond stupid as far as i am concerned. If I am at the point where I am actually aiming a weapon at someone in defense of my life, loved ones or even property I want it to be as lethal as possible if it has come to that point. So only police and government should have "lethal" firearms?
This whole gun restriction mess is getting out of hand.
The anti-2nd amendment loons probably figure that if the CDC is involved that will give them more leverage in ****ting on the 2nd amendment.
The "lethality" of her shooter's gun was obviously subpar, since she lived. Only a moron would think that the 2A should be limitted based on the potential "lethality" of the gun. We are in liberal land, where the guns that are "lethal" should be banned, the other guns are just fine. We need the CDC to study this "lethality" issue to determine which guns are which.
How often under what circumstances it goes through people, so as how to minimize how often it happens [in an undesired way].It's a high velocity bullet. What needs to be studied?
Those are 'legal' guns and guns you have nothing to fear from. What you have to be concerned about is the number of guns in the hands of criminals and the lack of severe sentencing for criminals and you would have to be foolish or braindead to think that people that have no problem gaining access to cocaine, heroin, marijuana and other forms of illegal drugs would be stunted in their pursuit of illegal firearms from the same means. It is not the lethality of guns that is a problem, it is how many guns there are. The estimated total number of guns held by civilians in the United States is 270,000,000, according to information from here:

Under what circumstances? Like...does the violent offender hold it sideways 'gangsta' style? How often under what circumstances it goes through people, so as how to minimize how often it happens [in an undesired way].

Things such as what is the relationship between the “violent offender” and the target. Do they know each other? Are they friends? Are they family? Are they the same person? Where did the firearm come from? What kind of firearm is it? What was the intended purpose of the act? What other contributing factors were involved? To what extent was the firearm a factor at all?Under what circumstances? Like…does the violent offender hold it sideways 'gangsta' style?
You are basing that prescription on what? You want to minimize it happening (Me too) then throw violent offenders in prison for a loooooooooooooooooooong long time.
Yep with all of those guns out there the number of murders/intentional injuries committed annually with guns is about 60K (and dropping) so for each gun (assuming a different gun per death/injury) that is one gun crime for every 4500 guns. For the 246,000,000 vehicles in the US there were 36K deaths and 2224K injures so that is one death/injury for every 108 vehicles.
FactCheck.org : Gun Rhetoric vs. Gun Facts
That website I referred to has gun numbers by country, and we own more guns then anybody.

You ‘know’ based on what data?Again most of us who know anything about guns including military and police already know. So again, the only reason is for an excuse.
once gabby gifford became the face - and now the voice - of gun control, your side lost this campaign
You ‘know’ based on what data?
That is an insane statement. Do you honestly think her face is going to change the current movement any more than CT did? Of course not. My "side" has nothing to do with anything. Fact...
Gun control advocates are losing support again. Even unrest for any new sweeping changes by Democrats is lagging. So please tell me what difference she made?
That is not the data that is pertinent to public policy and people being able to make better decisions. Think more along the lines of epidemiology type studies.Well lets see....
12 years military and x LEO yea I know and people like me know our weapons and rounds pretty well. Just ask me anything you want to know, What round bucks brush better or gives you better penetration?
only time will tell which one of us is correct
but i would rather the face of my advocacy be gabby and not the persona of the person who presides over the nra
