The island is 1.25 miles long. Why hasn't it shrunk due to rising sea levels?

Trump Admits Climate Change Is ‘Not a Hoax’ After Proposing Rollback of Environmental Law

President Trump said during a White House briefing on Thursday that he is a “big believer” in climate change and that it is “not a hoax” soon after his administration announced a plan to overhaul an environmental policy act. When asked by a White House pool reporter if he believes climate change is a hoax, the president said, “No, no. Not at all. Nothing’s a hoax. Nothing’s a hoax about that. It’s a very serious subject. I want clean air. I want clean water.” He then claimed, “The environment is very important to me. Somebody wrote a book that I’m an environmentalist called The Environmentalist… I’ll bring it to my next news conference, perhaps. I’m sure you’ll report all about it.” His comments come on the same day that the White House announced a major overhaul to the 50-year-old National Environmental Policy Act, which received backlash from environmentalists. The administration’s plan would effectively roll back regulations that require federal agencies to consider climate change when approving infrastructure projects, such as highways or oil and gas pipelines.

So why haven't you addressed the point of the original post?

Because I'm not an environmental scientist. How would I know?

What does what Trump believes on not, have to do with visual evidence of minimal to no sea level rise on Midway in 78 years?
BTW there is an official NOAA tide gauge at Midway, and it shows a small sea level rise,
but since the island is visibly larger, other factors are at play.

So why haven't you addressed the point of the original post?

Here you go:

After the Battle of Midway, a second airfield was developed, this one on Sand Island. This work necessitated enlarging the size of the island through land fill techniques, that when concluded, more than doubled the size of the island.
Midway Atoll - Wikipedia

It's called construction and doesn't take a genius to figure. It's a special kinda ignorant to be fooled by the OP.

Because I'm not an environmental scientist. How would I know?

It's a tiny island easily manipulated by engineers.

Miami Beach would have washed away decades ago were it not for imported sand.

From those two pictures it would appear that the island actually grew - I seriously doubt that its growth was due to sea level changes. I suspect that fill was added, probably to allow the runways to be extended for use by more modern aircraft.

Except that both photographs are of Eastern Island whose runways were already completed by 1942.

Except engineering didn't stop then. So stupid. What kind of ignorance makes a couple pics into evidence of a hoax. Pathetic.

You'd never heard of land reclamation? It's that level of ignorance so easily fooled.

It matters because if Trump believes in climate change then maybe he'll put back some of the EPA regulations that he dissolved.

Sand Island, is not Eastern Island! and the runways on Eastern Island do not look like they were expanded since the 1942 picture.
(They also look like they have not been used in many years.)

And that has what to do with the sea level at Midway island?

It has. According to NOAA, the sea level around the Midway Atoll between 1947 and 2018 averaged a 1.38mm increase per year. Which means that in the 79 years since the photograph as taken the sea level around Midway increased by 109.02mm or 4.29". It is not a difference you are going to be able to see from a photograph. Particularly when the tide changes more than that twice every day.

Land reclamation is a thing. You were fooled by two photos and unimaginable ignorance.

You might wanna consider how many times you've been fooled by ridiculous crap on this subject.

You beat me to it. The PSMSL page is here and depending how you
analyse the data it' a rise of four to five inches in all that time.

Land reclamation is a thing, it simple does not appear to have been a thing at Eastern Island in Midway.
The sea level has increased at Midway, about 4.2 inches between pictures.
It is unlikely that 4.2 inches of sea level rise would be observable from those photographs.

So are you officially calling the OP bs?

What the sea taketh the sea also giveth. Due north of the Midway Atoll the sea levels around Adak Island between 1957 to 2018 have been dropping by an average of 2.63 mm/year. So in the same period Midway lost 4.29" Adak Island rose by 207.77mm or 8.18".

It should be noted that the high tide around the Midway Atoll is between 1.1 and 1.6 feet. Which means that depending on the time of the day the photographs were taken, the older photograph may show less landmass than the newer photograph, despite the loss of 4.29" over 79 years.

The recorded Sea level rise is too small to be observed in the photographs.
Keep in mind that the observed 1.38 mm/year, is less than half of the claimed global sea level rise,
and the middle of the Pacific Ocean should reflect the global rate of rise.

So the OP is pure unadulterated bs intended to fool the ignorant.

Right?

Google Earth images don’t have elevations on them. I don’t know enough about the geography of Midway (and this is not Midway Island, in either of the images, BTW), to know how, or if, any shoreline would vanish if sea level rose 4”.

Sand Island was doubled in size upon creation. I expect maintaining that size is not a difficult measure. It's a tiny island.

You can agree that the climate is changing and still disagree that it's due to human activity.
