Yes, and all part of Putin's nuclear threat strategy. He will declare those regions included in the Russian Federation, and any defensive actions by Ukraine will be considered an attack on Russia herself. 'Attack Russia and we may use nuclear weapons to 'defend' Russia'.

Using nuclear weapons to defend illegally annexed territory would be the end of the Putin regime, and possibly the country itself. If Russians think they're suffering now, being a pariah state in a post nuclear war Europe with maximum sanctions and no aid coming in from anywhere would make Russia during World War 2 look like paradise.

Russia would be better off using nukes against its own people than against Ukraine.

Russia appears to be completely surrounded in Lyman (northeast Ukraine), and just hours from having about 3500 of their soldiers surrender or be killed. It would be nice if during Putin's speech, the Ukrainians planted their flag in the center of Lyman and frogmarched thousands of captured Russian soldiers out of the city.

any defensive actions by Ukraine
WONT EVER STOP FOR CZAR JUCHI PROJECT WILL BE CLOSED

Alexei Katerinichev, the so-called first deputy chairman of the collaborationist "#Kherson civil-military administration" was liquidated by the Armed Forces of #Ukraine.

Your last sentence aside, I agree. Russia could be heading back to the Soviet era, along with the brutality of the security services, shortages of everything, empty stores and rampant state corruption.

I suspect conditions in Russia would rapidly deteriorate and end up being much worse than the Soviet era if it makes the mistake of using nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

This is where things start to get unpredictable and dangerous. Putin has just escalated the situation with nuclear retaliation threatened if his newly 'acquired' members of the Russian Federation are attacked. It's a clever move; what does Ukraine do when defending herself is translated by Putin as an attack against Russia?
