Ron Howard is taking over the Han Solo 'Star Wars' movie - Business Insider

Was looking forward to this... now? Probably gonna suck ass. Too much drama around it's production.

Ron Howard is a good director and makes good movies.

A "young Han Solo" movie doesn't need to be made.

Ron Howard is a great director. I can't imagine the movie's chances of being good are any less with him at the helm.

They actually fired the two directors of the Han Solo movie in the middle of the shoot and then replaced him with Howard. Wow. Someone wasn't happy.

I suspect Howard will charge a lot to clean up a mess.

Or make an even bigger one.

He directed the NatGeo Mars series and it was just awful.

Good point, I just remember his good stuff, but looking through the list of films he has directed,
or some not so good ones also.

Agreed, I mean how young was Solo in the New Hope anyway?

RH has made some of the best movies I have seen in my lifetime.

If he had STARTED OUT making it, I'd agree, great move. A Movie this far into production loses it's directing team? Recipe for disaster

Seems the fired directors were trying to make it a comedy and encouraged the actors to improvise. The producer wanted them to stick with the script and they said no so she fired them and replaced them with Howard- who has had no prep time whatsoever. Uh oh.

I am not really a Ron Howard fan, but The Force Awakened survived having JJ Abrams directing(though only just barely, lord Abrams sucks bad). I doubt Howard can ruin a Han Solo movie. I doubt he can make it great, but no one really expects him too.

It's the fact they got through what? 2/3'rds production and then fired the directors? It's not RH it's the process that scares me.

I wonder what role his little brother Clint will play now.

I guess it depends on what you expect. Since the last really good Star Wars movie was Return of the Jedi, I really do not expect much more than a reasonably enjoyable time. If JJ Abrams could not ruin a Star Wars film, then this really cannot.

Then I remember the second set of films(Menace, Sith, Clones) and I worry a bit...

What are you talking about? He did ruin it.

TFA sucks big time, same story as Ep IV pretty much. The original plan for the new SW franchise was to introduce a new generation of Jedi but Abrams nixed it- he said he wanted to keep the old cast so in the end we got the turd called Force Awakens.

The quality of movies/entertainment/etc goes down as the popularity rises.

Just not true.

I hate the mindset of, "Once something becomes popular it instantly sucks!"

There doesn't necessarily have to have been a mess in the first place. The previous directors are competent.

TFA was not great, but I did not feel like I was wasting my time watching it. I will certainly admit that the biggest problems with TFA was Abrams and his ham handed directing style. I do not think that plot was so much the problem, it was fine for what it was.
