Ron DeSantis Says Floridians Have Right to Hit Protesters With Cars

It’s not free speech to block/trap people in their cars and/or behave aggressively while doing so.

Stand on the sidewalk and hold a ****ing sign, bitch into your bullhorns, and behave like a civilized person, and nobody will have any problems.

I like how you moved the goalposts from “protesting” to “blocking traffic” and pretended no one would notice.
Protesting is great. One of the great freedoms afforded to us living in the US. However, the line should be drawn when you’re blocking traffic of citizens trying to live their lives. There’s zero reason, justification or benefit to blocking traffic or threatening innocent bystanders. It’s actually counterproductive to their cause.

What exactly should the person do? Not drive through a crowd of people in the first place. This isn't ****ing rocket science.
When the protestors are blocking freeways, people don’t have a choice. Here is a radical thought. Keep your protest off the streets.

You mean like this? White liberals mocking a black woman trying to get to work to provide for her family.

A Big Apple mom was filmed begging anti-ICE protesters to let her get to her job as they blocked traffic, just for one to admit he didn’t care while sarcastically mocking her.

They think they’re going to bully people into switching their views. It’s actually the opposite. If anyone protesting a specific political point made me miss an important appointment, I would vote against their cause for the rest of my life.

A crowd surrounds this car:

They are jaywalking and prevent the person from driving away. Then they get violent and start attacking the car. What does the person do?

They don't care, except about the potential opportunity to do some looting in the chaos!

I wish you had instead replied to my edited post but that's okay that you didn't see it in time. Ron DeSantis is neither authoritarian nor fascist. If that's what you are alluding to.

You have a right to your opinion even though it's based in confirmation bias and is grossy wrong. Instead, what you have described is your own personal reasonings for using Christian nationalist as a pejorative. Thanks for the chat though. I've learned a lot about you.

I use Christian Nationalist as a pejorative because Christian Nationalists are, judging by their actions when given power, horrible people. Francisco Franco of Spain was a Christian Nationalist. He was by all indications a sincere Catholic and he truly loved his country. But he murdered tens of thousands of people who he did not believe were good-enough Catholics or good-enough Spaniards.

Yes, exactly. Personally, I believe the people who do this kind of thing aren't really about the cause they claim to be supporting...rather, they are glomming onto the movement so they have an opportunity to play out their unruly and disruptive fantasies.

I think you have used a broad brush to paint a large swath of people whose politics you disagree with.
Get a grip. Ron DeSantis is not like Francisco Franco of Spain.

Sheriff wants to shoot people DeSantis wants to drive over them. They force a senator to ground and cuff him.

Really great people, and all for a policy Trump is backing away from, at the moment.

Republicans have become accustomed to state sanctioned violence and they like it.

Cars have brakes, they absolutely have a choice.

Always have.

thankfully the dems are feckless so we don't have to worry about them banning the republican party and handling them like terrorists.

Probably not try to drive through a crowd in the first place. Not sure how this is a difficult concept.

So say you're trying to get to work or to the grocery store you should just **** off. You should be held hostage in your own City while terrorists promote authoritarianism?

Do you know where your right to swing your fist ends?

They don’t have a choice on where to go, how to get to work or to the hospital or how to get home to their kids.

I agree, running over protesters on the road is awesome!!

No, just suck it up and take your beating like a man 😉:

(I don’t think this will happen in Florida, which has about 2.5 million concealed-carry permits. Try to pull someone out their car against their will at your peril.)

The person you're asking thinks that person driving this car doesn't really have the right to travel and that a bunch of people with the stupidest ideas in the world that can't get any traction unless they throw bricks through windows deserve the right to hold such a person captive.

Walking up streets impeding traffic is a form of aggression. Part of me says let It Go on so that everyone hates these people and it's more and more likely that they get tear gassed moving forward and rested and possibly imprisoned for a good amount of time.

Essentially it's a war of attrition and if it happens enough people in the municipalities that happens and will vote for politicians that will place harsh penalties on them.

You're asking an authoritarian why people shouldn't have rights.

Yeah, at your bumper hitting people.

Cars have brakes, they absolutely have a choice.

Why do you defend the extreme narcissism of people who choose to unnecessarily block roads, surround people, and sometimes engage in threatening and aggressive behaviors?

And all the people who are driving and may be on their way to pick up their young children, go to their essential jobs at places like hospitals, or perhaps even having a medical emergency, be in labor, etc.—they can just get ****ed, right? Because narcissistic adults have decided to break a bunch of laws and throw public tantrums, and their pointless and completely self-sabotaging desires are just that important, right?

Come on, that’s beyond silly.

They don’t have a choice on where to go, how to get to work or to the hospital or how to get home to their kids.
Do you not know how cities and towns are constructed? How roadways are laid out? One certainly has a choice of how to get there.

You might say they have no right to be protesting on roadways, that's fine. Call the cops, the cops can handle it. But even if they shouldn't be protesting there, you are not justified in trying to drive through them.

I'm not arguing that people have the right to just go commit murder. They have to have the right to self-defense to have any other rights.

If a vehicle blocks a pedestrian crosswalk at an intersection on a red light, do pedestrians walking, biking, skateboarding all have a right to parkour over the portion of the vehicle blocking the crosswalk?

Reginald Denny would disagree with you.
