Ron DeSantis Says Floridians Have Right to Hit Protesters With Cars

Title is misleading.

DeSantis was speaking on The Rubin Report on Wednesday when he said: "We also have a policy that if you're driving on one of those streets and a mob comes and surrounds your vehicle, and threatens you, you have a right to flee for your safety.
"And so if you drive off and you hit one of these people, that's their fault for impinging on you."

Yeah, if that happens to me, I will be 'pushing' them out of my way. Good for DeSantis on this one.

And I suspect most of the posters complaining about this would be using the furthest pedal to the right as well.

I have two words for those complaining. Reginald Denny.

Yeah, someone posted video of that incident today. Upon viewing it again, my first thought as always was, "Why didn't you run some mother****ers over?"

It’s not free speech to block/trap people in their cars and/or behave aggressively while doing so.

Stand on the sidewalk and hold a ****ing sign, bitch into your bullhorns, and behave like a civilized person, and nobody will have any problems.
Don’t forget storming the capital building

That is good as well

Because most people don’t have it in them to do what is necessary to protect their own lives. So, they make excuses and rely on the kindness of the mob.

They'd only be criminals if they tried to drive through a crowd of people.
One can safely drive through a crowd of people, as long as one avoids the individual people by driving past them instead of over them. That's how the overwhelming majority of such situations would develop: someone would see people in the road, would assume they'd act reasonably and move out of the way once he got near, and then stop and wait for them to move out of the way if they're still blocking the road once he reaches them. That is precisely how 100% of my interactions with pedestrians in the street go, unless they move out faster, in which case I don't even need to stop. Very few people want to risk being hit by a car or even block traffic out of courtesy.

In a few cases, it's possible the crowd would become violent and threatening, and in that situation, what exactly is a person to do? If they surround the car, it's not like he can just turn around and leave without hitting someone. Not that turning around and leaving quickly is even possible on some narrow and one-way streets. So if they try to commit a violent act against him, his only option is to get beaten/killed or drive away and potentially hit a rioter. It's the motorist victims of the latter situation that DeSantis thinks should get protection, not people who intentionally and with premeditation run over pedestrians.

No I was sniping at @Hello My Son, who is neither of those things. I am willing to concede that Ron DeSantis is some form of Christian nationalist.

Why do you care if I'm religious or not? I've never preached from a theological perspective in a single post since I've been on the forum, and I've been quite open that my username and avatar are me being sarcastic about religion since I'm not religious at all.

I know. I was responding to a poster who I think believes you are a Christian based on your avatar.

Okay.

What is a Christian nationalist? Someone who puts his own country first? How dare he.

A Christian Nationalist is someone who believes that their country (the United States in this case) should be made a fundamentally theocratic nation based on Christian morality, that Christians should be privileged under the law, and wishes to impose that Christian morality through law through an authoritarian regime and law enforcement against individual citizens, firms and organizations. Iran for example is an Islamic Nationalist nation.

I would argue that most Christian Nationalists are not particularly religious, but are in reality fascists. For example, very few self-described Christian Nationalists are very big on Christian charity or Christian brotherhood across national or racial lines, even among Christians who are part of the same sect. They are just fascists whose desired policies could only ever be pushed through a far-right Christian lens, because most Americans, even devout right-wing Christians, would not vote for people who admit they are fascists or Nazis.

Ohhh, gotcha. Sorry for the misunderstanding. There are several posters who know that I'm not religious but falsely try to paint me as such just to troll. I thought you were doing that. My fault for not looking more closely at your interaction, and my apologies.

Does that mean if Floridians see a convicted protestor from J6 out on the street they can hit them with their car?

Well, to be clear I do not believe you are communist either, Hello My Son. That is, unless you are some form of accelerationist who acts as a rhetorical apologist for the Trump Administration and Republicans in general because you want Republicans to break the country and late-stage capitalism to burn itself out. But I consider that disorganized nihilism at best, or End Times Fascism at worst.

How about pure anarchism?

If running over people is good why not storming the capital?
It's not good. I don't know why people think that a governor can just give license to people to just commit vehicular homicide for no reason. Such a law would immediately be challenged in supreme Court and overturned.

So instead of thinking that the Republicans are this global Force controlling everything making it legal to murder people consider reality is not that ridiculous.

What exactly should the person do? Not drive through a crowd of people in the first place. This isn't ****ing rocket science.

I wish you had instead replied to my edited post but that's okay that you didn't see it in time. Ron DeSantis is neither authoritarian nor fascist. If that's what you are alluding to.

You have a right to your opinion even though it's based in confirmation bias and is grossy wrong. Instead, what you have described is your own personal reasonings for using Christian nationalist as a pejorative. Thanks for the chat though. I've learned a lot about you.
