Ron DeSantis lost his cool with a reporter when challenged over how his policy on the war in Ukraine would differ from President Joe Biden's, amid speculation the Florida governor is poised to launch a 2024 presidential bid. DeSantis was profiled Thursday by The Times of London, which was granted a relatively rare level of access to the Republican rising star. The Times is owned by Rupert Murdoch, whose Fox News network frequently interviews DeSantis. David Charter, a US Editor at The Times, wrote that DeSantis showed a "flash of temper" when asked about Ukraine. "I ask about Ukraine and he says that 'there's a critique of Biden, and I think I'm sympathetic to it in the sense that, is our policy just do whatever Zelensky wants? Or do we have a concrete idea of what we're trying to achieve exactly?'" Charter wrote. "When I ask him how it should be handled differently, he refers to Biden being 'weak on the world stage' and failing at deterrence, but as that is not answering how it should be handled now, I ask again. DeSantis does not have anything to add: 'Perhaps you should cover some other ground? I think I've said enough.'"

Where Trump would state that he would stop all aid/arms to Ukraine, Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis is shrewder than Trump and realizes that most of the US continues to support Ukraine.

So DeSantis clumsily tries to walk the line, criticising BIden for US support but unable to articulate a viable alternative that doesn't make him appear to be pro-Putin like Trump.

That’s more a matter of DeSantis avoiding stating any policy, rather than having a difference with Trump (or Biden).

You give DeSantis too much credit.

The reality is, he doesn't HAVE a Ukraine policy. His big money donors, lobbyists and GOP Elite backers haven't told him what his policy is yet.

The perfect politician will promise to ‘fight like hell’ for all three sides of a given issue, be somewhat against it under certain (unnamed) circumstances, yet always be willing to accept bipartisan compromise for the good of the people. ;)

Yes, something I have noticed often about DeSantis when being interviewed. He is long on anti "woke" ideas and flowery rhetoric but very short on policy . Interestingly, some seem to be so taken with his "manner" they don't seem to notice there is no real substance as it relates to policy on a national scale.

I have also noticed he is rather thin-skinned and defensive when challenged in any manner even when its by friendly fire. My sense right now is that he will not do well on the national stage when openly and regularly challenged.

This is what will happen with DeSantis....he will con-tinuously lose his composure when asked tough questions he's not allowed to dodge.

DeSatan is too busy fighting his war on woke for such silly questions. Let's watch and see how well he does with that war, and that will give us an indication of how he'll hand international problems.

Same. I think he'll fall apart and look like an infant.

This is one example of why I'm not too sure Trump can be beaten. It's clear Wall Street Republicans want to bury his legacy and want him out of the way, but the base of the party has shifted away from Wall Street and toward the angry blue collars. DeSantis is going to have to answer these kinds of questions and they're going to be out of step with the base.

Are you suggesting he has Globalist minders?

I enjoy reminding people (Here in Floridaa), that when Ron was in college, even his team mates, on the baseball team, had nothing
nice to say about him. Most called him "A Dick".
I like to add to the conversation "There probably was a reason for that" :)

Ron is a moron and does not have what it takes to answer such questions. Pull him out of the talking points his handlers feed him, and it becomes instantly clear that he is a empty suit.

Of course he will. He is a moron. He can't answer policy questions. He can't form formal arguments. He is like McCarthy and can't string together 3 complete sentences in a row, when speaking.

I'd like to see a few more "flashes of temper" between now and the primaries.

Because let's face it, that was a pathetic attempt to squelch a question by a pathetic excuse for a bully.

Dear Gov Ron: Put on some platform shoes before you try to look tough. kthxbye.

More likely that he doesn’t want to upset any among the donor class by keeping his (unstated) policy ‘options’ as wide as possible.
🤣

You don't think that. Nobody thinks that. DeSantis is a fool and you know it. That was probably the first time a thought about Ukraine fizzled into his brain in a long time, and he choked like the incapable fool he is.

In other words, stay away from topics I have no answer for. Jeez, what a wishy washy flake.

It would not surprise me if there is a hard-core MAGAt crowd that would LOVE his thin skin and defensiveness. After all, trump makes hay over the media "picking on him" too.

There will be more of this as DeSantis has to get out from his carefully selected media entourage being the only ones that have access to him.

Sorry for the run on….

Where is the part where he loses his cool?

Sooner or later, DeSantis will have to say something. He can only go so far saying nothing to a mirror.

My personal opinion is he is delaying as long as possible, hoping events (Trump indictment, Russian victory, etc) will make his choices for him. Because currently, he seems only able to stand up against Trans athletes and Toni Morrison novels.

Like most bullies, DeSantis is thin-skinned and short on intelligent commentary. His whole shtick is to persecute groups of people who he doesn't like.

In Florida, DeSantis has a rubber-stamp state government. No one with any sense ruffles his flamingo feathers.

National politics are another animal altogether. DeSantis seems woefully out of his element if the topic isn't banning trans-athletes or whitewashing US history on slavery.
