The details officials indicated he used a belt and had tried to cut his wrists with a pocket knife. A currently addicted druggie would've just overdosed.
Said he commited suicide because of his leftist world views..
That's what I heard on the news, and they had experts who said exactly that - a drug addict would simply overdose, not attempt to cut his wrists and not hang himself from a bedroom door. Williams demons had to be related to depression.

Saddened by the loss of Redwood HS classmate Robin Williams, one of the all-time greats. My favorite standup of his: How the Scottish invented Golf (Robin Williams - Live on Broadway) - YouTube
I know that I am a jerk... but kids are getting beheaded by ISIS, not to mention HAMAS, the kidnapped girls by Boka Raham, homeless people... forgive me if I don't give a **** (much less a huge thread) about Williams. Great "actor". Good. He made me laugh. Cool

Um, no offense, but how could your youngest son have been one of your best friends in high school? The math doesn't quite work.

Obviously other people do care. Why you felt the need to share is beyond me.
There's always gotta be one.
One can simultaneously be concerned about other world events AND take the time to mourn a well-liked, well-respected artist like Robin Williams.
that's not being a jerk, it's just "other focused"
people grieve over Robin Williams because he is perceived as a member of their tribe and he touched their lives in a measurable way (made them laugh, made them cry, made them reflect etc)
some kid half way around the world, is not perceived as a tribe member and their suffering and death is for the most part, not witnessed...it is an unknown
it's the way tribes have worked from the beginning of time, few worry about a death "over there, amongst them"
Um no offense, but can you not understand the written word?
My apologies; I thought you had a sense of humor that would appreciate my written-wordplay.
To put some perspective back into the world...
The "tribe"? What the hell? I think that you are trying a little too hard at playing psychologist.

Clinical depression definitely works like a downward spiral in that sense. Those who do come back from it always seem to have other people close to them who believe in them, support them emotionally, and help them in other ways.
Then start your own thread.
trying?
maybe you need to read a bit more on human behaviour and it's breakdown...
maybe I should have just gone with your first sentence...you know what they say...from an analytical standpoint...when someone tells you they are something, believe them...
sorry, my mistake..it won't happen twice.
Speaking only for myself, my own experience was that I had to come back on my own, as I didn't have friends or family who had been in that boat.
We in this country don't do well with mental health, the government continually cuts funding, and people often fall through the cracks...We need to take mental health as serious as any other fatal disease.

Well, to be honest, I don't know if more funding could actually fix the problem. My solution wasn't psychotherapeutic drugs, and it took me years to resolve, and much pain and grief. Psych is still one of the most misunderstood fields in medicine, and what I consider effective treatment is very expensive. I'm not one who thinks that slapping a bandaid on it can really work. It takes more time, patience, and dedication than most people have, and if you get professional treatment in the form of effective and good therapy (which I believe is important), it is prohibitively expensive. I am just fortunate in that I was able to eventually deal with as as well as I do.

The world has lost a great talent. My heart goes out to his family, friends and colleagues. My adopted brother and bio sister committed suicide and I know that while his pain his over, that of his loved ones is just beginning.
