We did the asshat of the year award already (well I missed it really but it was done.) So I was thinking, that was all well and good but there needs to be a yin for this yang.

I propose people nominate those they respect most for their debating skills on this forum. The kicker is you can only nominate those who's views you disagree with more often than not.

If this idea catches on we can add a poll later

Looks like the people who are getting the respect votes are mostly conservative posters. Of course the people who get the most hate are the other conservative posters.

I am not sure who I would throw out there that is someone who has leanings opposite of mine, since I am stuck in the middle with my overall views. I guess Kelzie would get my vote( she seems nice enough).

Edit.... I would add Red Dave as well, although I haven't had any personal disagreements with him, I have read his posts, and he seems to be a level-headed guy, who doesn't fall for sensationalised headlines for his sources.

There are hardly any people here that I oppose all the time but there are some I oppose heavily on certain issues and yet have tons of respect for them.

Star2589 is always very logical.

Jallman muddles my brain with niceties but also enjoys all out attack as much as I do! And he admits when he's wrong to boot which is a very refreshing quality that I admire.

Billo Really is so passionate and fiery with a funny temper so I just like the guy.

Aps I just love her and disagree with her on almost everything.

Kandahar so sensible! When I disagree with him I pause and check to make sure I stand where I stand as he's just so damn rational.

Galenrox I don't disagree with him much but his brand of libertarianism occasionally goes right up to the line of anarchy and I do disagree with him on corspe fvckers and pot but he's a fun guy. Reminds me of my youth.

O yeah and Korimyr the rat. I like him to and disagree with him heavily on some stuff but he's very respectful all the time while remaining non apologetic for his views and I love that he doesn't sugar coat. Plus he kicked my a$$ in the real debates. Fvcker! :mrgreen:

I'm sure there's some I've forgotten but those are the ones off the top of my head.

Well I guess that settles it....I would like to thank...my mother for telling a young impressionable youngster from Compton California that there are better things to life then Koolaid and burritos. I also want to thank the DP team for making all of this possible. I accept this award of behalf of christians, muslims, jews, blacks, whites and blue people in the world. You can do it too. If you work hard enough. You too can get an award like this.

This is a difficult thread. There are a large number of people who's debating skills I respect, but the problem is they seem to be on the same side of the fence as I in many situations. :lol:

I suppose tallou for her abortion stances. I admire her passion and her ability to stay above the fray.

WI Crippler for his un-extreme social conservatism.

All of the socialists for their economic beliefs. I used to be one of them, so I can respect where they're coming from, even if I don't buy it. This includes, but is not limited to Red Dave...I just can't think of anymore at the moment.

Jerry...for his something. I don't know what he is. I appreciate that he accepts gay marriage as inevitable, but still dislikes it. It's an amusing position.



I hate these threads. I always wind up forgetting massive numbers of people.
