"Roughly 80 percent of new clean energy manufacturing investments announced since the Inflation Reduction Act passed in 2022 have flowed to Republican congressional districts, according to data from Atlas Public Policy, a research firm.

Mr. Trump and his allies have attacked the legislation, which provides at least $390 billion over 10 years in tax breaks, grants and subsidies for wind and solar power, electric vehicle battery production and other clean energy projects. “We will rescind all unspent funds under the misnamed Inflation Reduction Act,” Mr. Trump said in September.

Mr. Trump has also attacked the CHIPS and Science Act, a bipartisan law aimed at reducing American reliance on Asia for semiconductors by providing billions in subsidies to encourage companies to manufacture more chips in the United States.

Some Republicans are joining the White House’s effort in pressing Republican leaders to preserve aspects of Mr. Biden’s policies. In states like Georgia, which has been a big beneficiary of Mr. Biden’s climate law, some of Mr. Trump’s supporters expressed concern about how potential rollbacks of the law could result in job losses and hurt companies that have made new investments in battery, solar and electric vehicle plants across the state.

Beth Camp, a Republican state representative who supports Mr. Trump, said she worried that the president-elect’s plan to repeal much of the climate law could be “detrimental” and leave factories “sitting empty” in Georgia.

...When Mr. Johnson said last month that Republicans may try to repeal the CHIPS and Science Act, which includes $39 billion in subsidies that Mr. Biden has said will revamp American semiconductor manufacturing and reduce reliance on China, other Republicans immediately clarified that the party supported the investments. Mr. Johnson later walked back his statement."

Why would people support a candidate whose economic policies they oppose?

Is preventing illegal aliens from getting transgender surgery in prison really worth shuttering factories?

There is no doubt that continuous annual federal deficit (stimulus?) spending is popular, but there is plenty of doubt as to whether it’s a sustainable policy.

Well of course he's going to push his commie P2025 bullshit, start his trade war, and the other shit he talked about that will ultimately torpedo our economy. What the **** did they think they were going to get? A stable genius? Trump is neither mentally stable, nor a genius. He is worshipped as Dear Leader by his commie MAGA followers and he wants to be nothing short of Supreme Leader. America can go **** itself for all Trump cares.

Are you suggesting they all hoped someone else would pay the bill, like welfare cheaters?

What I’m “suggesting” is that the federal government spends about $2T/year more than it dare ask for (demand in?) federal taxation.

The obvious answer is that while they might support him overall, or at least consider him better than Harris, that they still worry about some of the impacts of some of the policies might land on them or theirs.

I mean, this isn't really a tough one. Or even a new one. Any large policy or set of policies would have this.

I mean, like a lib might actually support legalizing pot, but that doesn't mean that they want to smell the stench of stinking potheads when they walk the streets.

You want the good, but fear the downside. Completely normal.

I'm open to taxing corporations at 42%. And capital gains. And offshored revenues.

The donor class disagrees with you, which is why that hasn’t been done. Congress critters currently enjoy re-election rates of over 90% by continuously spending more than they dare ask for in taxation.

Meanwhile, Democrats worry that Trump will follow through with Biden's lawfare policies.

What does that have to do with the topic?

Isn't government investment different from government spending in that the return from it will help mitigate the expense?
