You are displaying some common sense. Social conservatism is extremely hard to legislate. Fiscal conservatism, not so much.
I think Johnson will have some hard work ahead of him to get much passed without some political horse trading. The mistake McCarthy made was he did that trading without informing his caucus. So long as Johnson makes such things known before he agrees to them or has some consensus on bargains, he may be able to get things done. But, I have seen even veteran politicians be unable to do such, McCarthy being the obvious example.
I don’t recall McCarthy not informing his caucus.
Regardless, they were hell bent on demonstrating their ability to hold everyone hostage.
