Republican Gov. John Kasich to speak at DNC

Gee, what do you do when your fellow republicans are voting against you?

Kasich was awesome. He sounded presidential. Sweet Jesus, it was nice listening to an adult talk about America. I miss that.

Gee, what do you do when your fellow republicans are voting against you?

He just comes across as a loser who eats sour grapes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Flake, Romney as well. If they are so good why didn’t they challenge Trump for the nomination this time?

Kasich had strong beliefs that he was ging to be the Republican nominee at some point and well, it didn't work out for him. He's just a bitter, bitter, liberal who masqueraded as a republican for a while.

I will not, for the life of me, understand why the Democrats are giving a platform to that asshole.

They need to win big because twump is doing his best to cheat so they need someone to say its ok to trash trump and start over.

Sure you do.
He only needed to be a Republican Against Trump.

"Pretend"?(LOL)

Yes, pretend. Because most folk identifying a "conservative" these days aren't the conservatives of days past. They don't push the platform and philosophies of conservatism. In the end, today's conservatives are nothing more than Big Government Fascists. Pushing anger and hatred, and condemning anyone who doesn't walk lock-step with them. Which is why so many "conservatives" will apply the RINO tag to anyone who things differently than the group or doesn't push Dear Leaders agenda. The ones actually pretending to be conservative are the Trumpeteer Cultists. They've hijacked the political ideology and twisted it for the purposes of Dear Leader Trump.

Most "conservatives" today are nothing more than a shell of the old ideology. A scam, another Big Government party pretending to be what it isn't. They've taken advantage of the faux dichotomy the Republic has fallen under to trick people into supporting their variant of Big Government. It's sad really, conservatives used to have integrity and ideology, they used to have platform and philosophy. But they no longer have any of those things.

The pretenders have taken over and are more than willing to kick actual conservatives to the curb in their quest for power and dominance.

I will not, for the life of me, understand why the Democrats are giving a platform to that asshole.

For the same reason that the right gave a platform to former liberal Democrat Senator Zell Miller when they asked him to be the keynote speaker at the 2004 Republican National Convention.

It works.

No he does not. The title governor belongs to Mike DeWine.

One always gets to use the highest title he or she once held.

All governors are still called Governor X after leaving office.

He could also be called Congressman if he chooses.

While I agree with everything you wrote, I've gone a step further in my development. I reevaluated my beliefs from my youth and realized the party of that time was as wrong-headed and inconsistent as the party is today, just in different ways. Some of the catch phrases that are central to "conservative" philosophy have always been wrong-headed and honored more in the breach. "Small government", for example. Going all the way back to Thomas Jefferson, that phrase was disingenuous.

The central promise and premise of the Constitution is for a robust central government capable of providing for the general welfare and common defense. That cannot be achieved with a small and deferential government, and never could. Jefferson recognized the efficacy of an expansive government when he made the Louisiana purchase. When was a conservative party ever a champion of "the common good"?

I'd say the closest a conservative ever came to governing well was Dwight Eisenhower, and he remains one of my heroes. But he was not a proponent of "small government", he of the national highway system and NASA. He understood the efficacy of a competent, robust and principled government. Who else ever fit that bill? Washington?

I agree with everything except about zell miller being a liberal. He was a moderate that transitioned into a conservative democrat later on in life. I

I think what makes the kasich and the other republican endorsements for biden special is that none of them changed their lean. I think kasich is still pretty center right but he would rather have four years of liberal and progressive policies just to get rid of the orange clown.

I picked John Kasich over Trump back in 2016.

Everyone wanted to elect an outsider, someone who wasn't a politician or lawyer, so Trump won.

You reap what you sew, and we sewed a turd.

I feel like he will run again the future. It’s probably a good strategy to stand up to Trump. He will earn himself a lot of respect from many.

Not really. You endorse a democrat and you can kiss the nomination goodbye. He would get pounced for this during the debates.

I think they want some forms of what they call socialism, but for white people.

Well for Corporations and the New Aristocracy anyway.

He is also the governor of Ohio. And seeing all the Republicans there speaks volumes about the campaigns unity message. It’s a very nice change. We really do need to reunify the country in some way

I will not, for the life of me, understand why the Democrats are giving a platform to that asshole.

Because they want to peel moderate Republican voters away from Trump.

But I am delighted to give Never trumpers a voice at our convention, and maybe some representation here and there in the Biden Administration as tokens of our willingness to listen to their ideas and compromise , as long as they aren't getting anything much from the platform committees. We are a left-center party and I want us to stay a left center party.

Are you worried at all about the Lincoln Project, a never-Trump PAC started by Republicans that many have speculated aims to infiltrate the Democratic party, influence Biden right, and shift the Overton window further?

The Problem with The Lincoln Project – TREMG

Not really. You endorse a democrat and you can kiss the nomination goodbye. He would get pounced for this during the debates.

Not if the Republicans can get rid of the Trump trash. My hope is for a new conservative party to form around the nucleus of the Lincoln Project. With any luck we'll get rid of Trump in January and the Republican Party will implode.
