This is not good :(

Two major Israeli newspapers are reporting that rockets fired from Egypt have hit Israel.

"Terrorists in the Sinai Peninsula launched rockets into Israel Friday night," reports the Jerusalem Post. "The rockets fell near an Israeli village on the southern border, causing some damage, but no injuries."
The Israeli daily Haaretz reports, "Rockets fired from direction of Egypt toward Eshkol Regional Council."
It appears no damage was reported in connection with the rocket fire from Egypt. Earlier today, the Egyptian prime minister visited Gaza to express solidarity with the Palestinians there.
This new front comes a day after a rocket landed near Tel Aviv and on the same day Israel's capital Jerusalem was the target of rocket fire. Those attacks were courtesy of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Somebody is about to get their butts kicked. Again.

Not the first or second time in the recent months that the Sinai Peninsula is being used for terror activities against Israel.
It has become more and more of a stronghold for terrorism since the Arab Spring, and it doesn't seem like Egypt gives much of a damn.

Somebody is about to get their butts kicked. Again.

True, but I don't hold out much hope that they will learn anything this time either. What is it about the Arab world that makes democracy a nonstarter there?

I can care less if they adopt democracy a republic or whatever other goverment that strikes their fancy. What am interested in is these twits learn to play with others. They just have to learn to play not even well. Till then they be uncivilized thugs. Theres only one good kind of thug. If Isreal was smart they would make these twit thugs into the good kind. Dead.

What you said...

Besides getting the Palestinian territory rocket firings into Israel to slow down or stop, what are the stepwise objectives for a ground incursion by Israel into Gaza?

How does the Sainai demilitraized zone figure in?

"We are ready for a wide-scale ground operation, if necessary, but it should be noted that the IDF enters Gaza, it cannot be stopped in the middle; it needs to go all the way.”

“This wasn’t done after the ground operation in Cast Lead,” he said, explaining that the military stopped short of fully carrying out its objectives in its assault on Hamas four years ago. “We we paid a heavy price in world opinion and still did not achieve our goal.

"The foreign minister outlined three goals for the operation: bringing quiet to the south, establishing Israeli deterrence, and eradicating the long-range missile arsenal of Gaza terror groups.

“The only way to live here in peace and security is to create a real deterrent by causing an overwhelming response, so that they don’t test us again,” he concluded."

"January 3, 2009 - The ground stage of the operation commences.

"Previous ground offensives have had mixed results, and a new one would result in more Israeli casualties, something that could hurt Netanyahu as he seeks reelection in January. An effort to remove Hamas from power in Gaza presents Israel with the unpopular prospect
of reoccupying the Palestinian territory"

"The Obama administration is increasingly concerned about the escalating violence in Gaza, believing that a ground incursion by Israel there could lead to increased civilian casualties, play into the hands of the militant Palestinian group Hamas and inflict further damage to Israel’s standing in the region at an already tumultuous time."

Israel is in a very precarious situation now. The missile strikes will foster a war -attitude and I believe justified paranoia among their people. Notably, while the population of nearly every country in the world overwhelming favored Obama to be re-elected, Israeli Jews overwhelmingly opposed it.

Israel races a very difficult decision. Iran has vowed to totally eliminate Israel and explained accurately that a couple of nuclear weapons would forever eliminate Israel, while a last-act nuclear retaliation by Israel would irradicate Iran. Iran is going to obtain atomic weapons. Washington even dealing in reality as seen in Joe Biden's aburd statement that even Iran has the nuclear material they don't know how to use as a weapon or to make a nuclear or atomic- which is a complicated as having a steel pipe and some gun powder.

In short, Israel has to decide upon war with Iran or not - and if it does it does so alone. Israel has no allies left.

It is very interesting different takes on events. In the OP above it said the Egyptian leader visited Hamas to show solidarity with the Palestinians or something to that effect. Yet in listening to a " news" report yesterday they said the Egyptian went to seek a de escalation in the conflict. Quite a different take.

There are a number of Palestinians in Gaza who are not bent on shooting Rockets. How can good intentioned Palestinians in Gaza live in peace?

Palestinian merchants and Labor unions in Gaza seem tied up inthe political agenda of opposing israel.

My pop said to me once "Son if your gona be a bastard be the best meanest damn bastard you can be." If they be going alone then they may as well go with style and gumption. With a **** eating grin, evil shining bright in their eyes and hellsfire in their hearts.

Move to where exactly?

It's not that simple as to they can just pack up and leave. The Gaza Strip is 25 miles long and 5 miles (approx) wide. 1.6 Million people are living there, nearly half of them are under 14 years of age. Border crossings remain closed. They can't come and go as they please.

Then they need to kick the asses of the guyes shooting rockets at the Israelis. Otherwise they be screwed.

"In the cease-fire talks in Egypt, Hamas is demanding that Israel agree to end the border blockade and promise to stop targeted killings of its leaders, a Hamas official said. Israel has not confirmed that talks are underway, or revealed its conditions for a truce.

"If an agreement is not reached, Hamas leaders are betting that the new Egyptian government, controlled by a more friendly Islamist president, won't stand by if Israel launches a ground invasion....

Overthrow or arrest the Palestinians who ARE bent on shooting rockets.

didn't they move some troops into the region back in August?

is that really an option here? The only other armed elements in Gaza seem to be groups that actually make Hamas seem reasonable

The moderate Palestinian civilians probably need to take responsibility for their safety. If they do not like the militants starting armed escalations where they (the civilians) are harmed, perhaps they should get rid of those from their side that tend to instigate. Resistances have started with less.

I fully understand the principle, but I'm just not seeing such as a practical option here. Seems Hamas maintains pretty tight control over Gaza and the only other groups able to operate are ones much more ideological than Hamas

Well, there are options, though some may be radical. Taking up arms against the militants, asking for assistance... even from Israel to deal with the militants, but NOT blaming Israel for responding to attacks. The Palestinian civilians are casualties, but casualties of the behavior of the militants that govern them.

"In attacks on Saturday, Israel destroyed the house of a Hamas commander near the Egyptian border.

Casualties there were averted however, because Israel had fired non-exploding missiles at the building beforehand from a drone, which the militant’s family understood as a warning to flee, witnesses said."

Leaflets dropped from the air in areas to be attacked have also been used by the Israelis to prevent civilian casualties.

"Few in the Palestinian territory's largest urban area, Gaza City, came out following the call for dawn prayers on Thursday, and the only vehicles plying the streets were ambulances and media cars.

"Hamas announced a state of emergency in Gaza, evacuating all its security buildings and deploying its troops away from their locations.Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets on several locations in Gaza early Thursday, warning Gazans to stay away from Hamas, other militants and their facilities."

"As part of its aggressive social media public relations campaign, the Israeli Defense Force’s twitter account is blasting out statements and infographics about Israel’s right to defend itself.

"The account has now started mixing in messages about Israel’s attempt to mitigate casualties in Gaza by delivering leaflets urging Palestinians to stay away from Hamas facilities that may be targeted."

Really, thats rich the Hamas leadership is frightend of dying. Well they dont want to die maybe they shouldnt be shooting rockets at heavily armed people who will use those arms. Just a thought. Something tells me a few more Hamas "leaders" are going to be "voluteered" for martardom whether they wish to or not. If these twits want peace, maybe they shouldnt go looking for trouble. Cause for whatever reason they seem to find more they bargain for. I think they are insane because they keep sticking their hands in the buzzsaw, and keep pulling back a stump.
