I remember when this happened. The Dixie Chicks were the biggest country music stars at the time and they had gained cross genre appeal. They criticized the Iraq war and Bush, and their careers vanished over night as conservative country music listeners burned their cd's and called into radio shows.

Now every conservative on this message board and in general pretends they never supported George Bush or the Iraq war.

In 20 years, is the same thing going to happen when talking about Trump?

People voted with their wallet. Shitty music anyway.

They were blacklisted from thousands of radio stations, mostly in the South where their music was popular. Their albums which used to go platinum became duds due to the boycott. Their US tour had to cancel all the dates in the south as the radio stations wouldn’t play their ads to sell tickets. They were cancelled.

Disappeared? LOL

They did a world tour in 2023 including 95 dates.

The Chicks have charted 22 times on the American Billboard Hot Country Songs charts; "There's Your Trouble", "Wide Open Spaces", "You Were Mine", "Cowboy Take Me Away", "Without You", and "Travelin' Soldier" all reached number one. The Chicks have received 13 Grammy Awards, ten Country Music Association awards and eight Academy of Country Music awards. By July 2020, with 33 million certified albums sold and sales of 27.9 million albums in the US, the Chicks had become the best-selling all-woman band and best-selling country group since Nielsen SoundScan began recording sales in 1991.

Disappeared my ass.

Then they sold out stadiums in Europe for 10 solid years.

Hateful cancel culture is what it was.

"Not Ready to Make Nice" was one of the greatest comeback songs ever.

Deservedly so. They experienced the FO phase full force.

Whys that? As has been pointed out already, the same conservatives that cancelled them for their comments now want the world to believe that they never supported the very thing The Chicks decried. If it wasn't so ****ed up it would be hilarious.

It was a little more complex than that. The Republicans framed the question as either being for the troops, or against the troops. If you didn't support the war, you were against the troops. Some radical RW types were actually protesting the funerals of soldiers saying that they had died because America was tolerating Homosexuality.

The same people who claimed that opposing the Bush Administration and the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was Treason, suddenly became very pro opposition when Obama was President. The surveillance programs started under Bush as necessary for protecting America were proof of totalitarian dreams of the Left once Obama was in office and in charge.

Of course, the RW doesn't have the Hypocrisy market cornered, but they are a majority stockholder in that particular trait.

For awhile.
The Bush thing was in 2003. Since then they're the best selling country music group.

You people are working on old and false info.

It's not the hypocrisy as much as the complete rewriting of history.

Shitty music anyway.
I always enjoy kindergarten arguments.
Goes like this: I don't like what they said or stood for so I will mock their music even though I have never achieved fame myself and all I can do is mock successful people from my basement sitting behind a computer screen.

They came back and became pretty popular, but pre-Bush criticisms they had sold 25 million albums.

For awhile as well, they were pretty much radioactive among their formerly biggest fans.

The Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) are one of the most commercially successful acts in history, having sold over 24 million albums and generating more than $175 million in revenue for Sony alone since 1997

NOW please Toby, can you tell us what YOU have achieved??

Full force would be "Charlie Kirk".

They had to settle with getting rich off of European fans is all.
They did 67 tour dates in North America in 2023.

The moral of the story is that if your audience for your genre of music is conservative, you should not shit where you eat. That's not good business.

Whether or not I agree with a particular war, I support the troops if they are deployed. I just do not like forever wars. Bush at least surged the troop deployments and effectively ended the war. Too bad the same thing was same was not done with Vietnam and Afghanistan.
In 20 years, is the same thing going to happen when talking about Trump?
If he gets us into a forever war, sure.

After we invaded Iraq because of...WMD's....Afghanistan became a sideshow for the Iraq war. The reason Afghanistan dragged on so long is partly because of all the resources diverted to Iraq.

It's not the hypocrisy as much as the complete rewriting of history.

I remember when Bush said that everyone wants a Dictator, so long as they get to be the dictator. That was true, so far as it went.

Beyond that the Trump Fanboys are clamoring for that totalitarian regime so long as they are in charge. That's the hypocrisy. They want absolute power so long as their guy is the one wielding that power against the people they hate. If the other side is in charge, the same policies they scream are absolutely constitutional now, would be unconstitutional and proof of dictatorial ambitions if someone else holds the reins.
