Red Flag Alert for Southern California

More than 62,000 customers in California are without power, according to PowerOutage.us. The bulk of those without power are in San Diego.

Our Generex system has been running since approximately 5:50 PM last night, and the power is expected to be off until the Santa Ana weather resolves, the 13th of December. There currently is a huge, dangerous fire burning to the North of us in Malibu, CA. We had wind gusts last night 75 mph, gusts currently are over 40 mph. It's as dry as a bone with humidities near 10%. Fire weather.

Hoping you & all those Californians get their power back quickly & that fire gets under control quickly for any/all Californians. Yes it is ~ Fire weather.

We got a notice of a potential power shut down. So far so good no winds.

and reduce the risk of wildfires caused by downed power lines.
Some lawsuits have consequences.

I find it interesting that people have not filed more lawsuits against elected officials who approved housing development in high fire prone areas without requiring mitigating measures.

People are willing to pay a mess of property taxes for the opportunity of having a house in the hills with an ample supply of ladder fuels.

I had a manicure set for tomorrow for the cat. They called and cancelled all their appointments because they have no power. You stay safe too, my friend. 🙏 🤗

Our utilities within our particular community are all underground. It's the lines that are still overhead, along side the major roads that come down that will start the initial fire, and with winds like these can easily spread for miles. I am glad the power companies are doing their part.
Glad to hear you do not have overhead lines except down major roads
The problem neighborhoods face is not so much the flaming front of a wildfire but the ember wash that hits the homes. Also if homes are built close together the fire becomes basically a house to house fire once one goes up
We bought over four acres in a very wooded area and there is a lot of brush. Around our immediate home, it is cleared for 500 feet. We pay over six thousand dollars a year with State Farm. I don't want anyone paying for the risk we have decided to take on. I wouldn't live any place else. I live in paradise.
You are doing your part.
Stay safe.

Santa Annas are a bitch but SDG&E cuts the power because they've been sued in the past for fires caused by downed power lines.

I bet they forgot to sweep the forest floor. They should have asked Donald. He would have told them what to do. Hope they aren't expecting any federal aid?? That is reserved for red states that voted for Trump.
No forests in SoCal.....it's all wild fire fuel like Manzanita.

That seems to be true.

it is amazing how homes in those areas sprout back about 6 months after the vegetation begins to regrow. :ROFLMAO:

If they shut down one line can't they reroute through others not in the impacted areas? Shouldn't that kind of redundancy be built into the grid?
Wires are wires and can be knocked down by high winds. Honestly, when the Santa Annas are this bad, you can look daggers at a patch of brush and start a fire.

Our native chaparral — drought tolerant and most plants highly flammable. Throw in non-natives that are common in landscaping but highly flammable — palms and eucalyptus trees — and there’s plenty of fuel for wild fires.

Odd that we had little to no breeze here while further along the coast the Santa Ana winds were whipping the flames.

Knock on wood, no fires in San Diego county except for a fire near the border, but it's not that large and is partially contained. Hopefully we get through the next 12 hours without major incidence and our neighbors in LA country get a handle on the Franklin Fire in Malibu.

Happy to report our generator is taking a needed siesta because the electric company turned on the juice and weatherwise, we are over the dreaded Santa Ana wind storm.

Not so fortunate are our neighbors to the north. The Franklin Fire in Malibu has grown to 4,000 acres and many remain evacuated. Hopefully, with the weather change, fire fighting forces will now be able to get a good handle on this fire. 🙏

I wish the best for all of you. That must be so scary. Please keep us updated.

Please don't.

Not funny.
Marjorie wasn’t trying to be funny. And, elections have consequences. Marjorie just won 64% of her district running on her various claims, including the claim that the fire near @trixare4kids was caused by space lasers. Donald just won the 2024 election running on his various claims including the one that @trixare4kids and her fellow Californians such as myself are the cause of these fires due to insufficient raking. And in neither of these cases will the MAGA now threatened by these fires dare admonish Marjorie and Donald, telling them that it isn’t funny and they should stop.

So, if Marjorie gets a free pass, and Donald gets a free pass, and @trixare4kids gets a free pass, then I might as well have mine too. @Ishm might as well enjoy one as well.

The latest news is that these fires are spreading due to combustible spike proteins emitted by trans gender studies majors.

I'm surprised that fires in Malibu are impacting San Diego. That would be like a fire in Phoenix impacting Tucson. The power infrastructure should be set up to prevent something like that from happening.
Its because of the moron environmentalists saying trees and shrubs shouldnt be cleared and be left to grow wild instead. Perfect kindling for fires.

We're all good as far as this latest red flag warning having been cancelled. Thank you.
Now the fire fighters will be able to get a real handle on the Franklin Fire in Malibu. Higher humidity, and little wind is what they need for containment.

Trix, I'm in HB, just came in from outside. Temperature is dropping and you can feel the moisture in the air. I checked the weather report for Malibu and they are expecting light showers later. Looks like a good break to get control of the Franklin Fire.

How to show us that you have no clue. No one in SOCAL is saying not to clear brush...it is strongly encouraged to do so...and fire departments even charge some property owners if they don't.
