Michael Sam Becomes First Openly Gay Player Drafted in NFL
May 10, 2014
The St. Louis Rams picked Missouri defensive lineman Michael Sam today, making him the first openly gay player to be drafted in the NFL.Sam came out as gay in February. He told his teammates and coaches before the season."I understand how big this is," he told ESPN's "Outside the Lines" when he decided to come out. "It's a big deal. No one has done this before. And it's kind of a nervous process, but I know what I want to be ... I want to be a football player in the NFL." ]Sam was named an All-American defensive lineman and The Associated Press' SEC Defensive Player of the Year last season.

Congrats Mr. Sam! another hurdle over come. Nothign much needs said on this.
Like all draftees I hope you have great success on the field. Good luck!
I wish him well. I hope he proves the naysayers wrong. But since when is a seventh round pick big news? It doesn't mean that he can't be a great player - Tom Brady was a 6th round pick and Marques Colston was the second to last pick. So I hope he cam be as good as them, and we can talk about how he's a GOOD Linebacker instead of a GAY Linebacker.
after his performance at the combine, i'm surprised he was drafted at all.
it was nearly unanimous that he's a great dude... but not good enough for the NFL
he's not fast, and he's not strong.... so I guess, here's to hoping he has something in his bag of tricks to overcome those extremely important attributes.
personally, I hope he sucks... but that's just because I can't stand the Rams and I hope they have a losing season.

I know the bolded pained you.
It does, but he's certainly turned out to be better than most 6th rounders.
Thing with the draft is outside of the top 10 it really doesn't matter when you go, but more what you do once your name is called.
comes out say he is gay and he gets the league minimum, still more then most make in 5 years.
But I am done with the National Felons League. and not because of micheal sam
my dream waas to be the 3rd string punter on the dallas cowboys... relegated to the practice squad for eternity.
it would have been a good life
pro football bores me nowadays... college ball keeps me interested... unlike the pros, college kids play hard and they try and try...... those spoiled NFL brats barely even pretend to try anymore.

He could still end up being great. Tom Brady was drafted 16 picks after the Browns drafted Spergeon Wynn. I bet they'd like a do over on that one now!
Oh i am done with the NCAA stuff as well. I am done with all of it, seems they can only find players that are just felons anymore. arrest here and there even in college. I am just done.

It's news, because he's gay and that if he hadn't come out of the closet, he wouldn't have been picked, at all.

he might, but I think he's gonna have a very tough time overcoming his glaring weaknesses...
How do you know that? He was a good enough player to take a late round chance on.
Co-winner defensive player of the year for the SEC
I wonder when the other winner got drafted.
Ahh google is my friend
CJ Mosley 17th pick first round versus 249th
Just an observation, not a criticism.
