Radio campaign next step against Rush Limbaugh

Free speech meets free speech, that's all this is. Market forces.

Suppressing free speech is now considered free speech?

Sounds to me like you only support free speech for those with pockets deep enough to protect it. What happens when Media Matters goes after a private citizen, who is a long way from being a millionare and can't drop a hundred grand on a radio campaign?

Libbo hypocrisy reigns supreme, as usual.

Silencing the opposition has no end, for the Libbos.

The means of protest puts Media Matters and the conservative Media Research Center in the unlikely position of agreeing with each other. Brent Bozell, founder of the conservative media watchdog, said his group also informs advertisers of things it considers objectionable.

i find it difficult to envision a scenario in which i would care less if he's on the radio or not.

my opinion on Limbaugh is that i find it sad that he has a decent mind, but is almost completely devoid of real intellectual curiosity. if he were not, he would constantly re-examine his own views in light of new data instead of searching only for data that affirms his pre-existing opinions. if he did that, he might actually be able to contribute to solving the problems that he continuously rants about.

Liberals trying to stifle opposing political speech is what being a liberal is all about. They can't win the war of ideas, so they have to resort to attacking and silencing their opponents to have any chance of relevancy.

There is nothing new or surprising about this at all.

"Liberals" have a right to inform advertisers of things they find objectionable just as much as Illiberal conservatives do.

This would be "suppressing free speech" if the government was doing this. This is using Free Speech to speak out against someone you disagree with. This infact is not "suppressing free speech". Of course you think it is because MM (a private entity) is speaking out against a far right wing radio talk show host, so therefor you are going to play the card "Oh liberals hate free speech... SEE!". But in reality this is not suppressing free speech. In fact this is using free speech.

If you think smearing of a 30-year-old college student for three days is "political speech", then you need to reevaluate your stance, IMO. I'll say it again, the is nothing wrong or underhanded here. The liberals ha ve the same free speech thee conservatives do. The free market will decide what happens. I suspect Mike Huckabee's new talk show will replace Limbaugh in some of the large markets.

That's silly. Rush isn't going away.

The best way to combat Limbaugh for the liberal media machine is to IGNORE him. By keeping him in the limelight like they are and exposing him to more and more audiences, they are making his profile higher. Its pretty stupid the way they go after him.

If there is a true caring God! He will go away! And sooner than later!

God has nothing to do with this in my opinion. He created us with free will. The people will decide if Rush goes away or not.

Ok, so a letter writing campaign started by liberals shows that they can't win the war of ideas, they oppose political speech, yaddi yadda.

What's the problem Pete?

If this is your counter argument to the recent "silencing opposing political views" criticism of the left for their organized boycott of Rush Limbaugh sponsors, you have totally missed the mark.

There is nothing wrong with emails, letters, phone calls or even protests asking for a certain media personality to be fired. That is how freedom of speech works. Now when the personality isn't fired, and people choose to take organized action to inflict economic harm that forces that personality of the airwaves, that's quite another story. Especially since this action isn't done in the interest of public safety or based on upholding moral standards, but based purely on opposing political views.

Nice try Pete, but once again one of your attempt to prop up the actions of the left has failed.

Oh, holy ****, who'da thunk it? Conservatives do it? It's perfectly fine. Liberals do it? Trying to stifle the freedom of speech.

As if anyone needed any more proof not to take anything you say seriously.

Typical CPC going on here.

They're not demanding Rush be taken off the air. Even if they did, the government is not passing any laws taking him off the air, which is what the First Amendment bans anyway. The First Amendment means Rush can say what he wants, and people who think he's an arrogant dickhole for it are allowed to say that he's an arrogant dickhole. It doesn't stifle someone else's right to disagree with you. Would you have a problem suppressing the free speech of the people complaining about Rush.

I'm sure you were just as outraged when people demanded that country radio stations stop playing the Dixie Chicks when they made comments about Bush, weren't you?

This whole thing is baloney and has been from the start.

If liberals wanted to really silence Limbaugh they could do a little thing I like to call "changing the channel"

The problem is the average American really doesn't care about this. So here comes big brother and sister liberals who know what is best for us and must take action on our behalf.

Lol... Do you really not get it, or are you playing dumb?

You can do all of those things, but then it's up to the advertisers and the public to decide his fate. There isn't a person in America that doesn't know about this, but since it hasn't resulted in the destruction and silencing of Limbaugh, the left continues to organize more campaigns.

This is about silencing opposing political speech and nothing else. You know it, and I know it.

They have every right to boycott and encourage others not to listen to his show, but the whole charade reeks of false outrage.

Wait, you said in that other thread that there is nothing wrong with protests, letter writing campaigns and other such things against Ed Shultz. Now you're getting your panties in a wad because liberals are doing it to Rush?

So what's the difference here except that you like Rush and don't like Shultz?

Media Matters exercising their free speech rights:

Lol... Do you really not get it, or are you playing dumb?

Fact 1: You criticize the left for silencing speech when they start a letter writing campaign.

Fact 2: You say it's perfectly fine when a conservative writes a letter and starts a petition to do the exact same thing.

Anything else is just your verbal diarrhea trying to convince yourself of your preconceived notions that everything liberal is evil and everything conservative is the best thing since sliced bread.

It is absolutely, positively, false outrage designed to silence opposing political views.

Fact 1: You criticize the left for silencing speech when they start a letter writing campaign.

No, I critisize the left for pretending that Rush Limbaugh's words describing that woman are the reason for their attempt to shut him down.

Fact 2: You say it's perfectly fine when a conservative writes a letter and starts a petition to do the exact same thing.

You are a liar... I know exactly what I said, and that ain't it.

So why don't you link to my post where I said such a thing... Oh, and that quote better say it's ok for "conservatives".

Anything else is just your verbal diarrhea trying to convince yourself of your preconceived notions that everything liberal is evil and everything conservative is the best thing since sliced bread.

Well, the way you and a hand full of liberals lie and misrepresent my words on a regular basis, I believe it's your actions, not my words, that are doing all the talking.
