Virginia Beach Republican Party chair Dave Bartholomew resigned over racist email

As the progressive Blue Virgina blog reported Monday -- and I independently confirmed from one of the recipients Tuesday -- Virginia Beach Republican Party chair Dave Bartholomew forwarded a racist email comparing African Americans to dogs. The email, subject line "my, dog," consists of a racist parable about African Americans and welfare. In the first 24 hours since the email came to light, Democrats condemned Bartholomew and he resigned his position with the Republican Party.

Conservatives tend to want cultural homogeny so anything that points out something different will likely be a successful strategy. That's not the same thing as racism though.

There may be lots of reasons... he was told to by the party bosses for one, but I agree him resigning is a clear sign of guilt and that he sent it. Pardon me, I'm skeptical of macaca moments these days since those moments on the (D) side of the isle never make the light of day but require tar and feathering on the (R) side.

This isn't about conservatives. It's about the GOP leadership and it's cynical use of a racist strategy that goes back to the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
