I agree with everything you wrote except Reagan didn't raise interest rates. That was the Fed, who was trying to wring out entrenched inflation. People can disagree whether they went overboard at another time.

President don't raise interest rates, it was the policies of "Deregulation" which saw "competetion diminish" which led to inflation taking off like a rocket, there was less competetion in sectors to keep prices down. (more competetion is always a check on keeping inflation down, when competetion is diminished "inflation increases)).

Today, Biden's Inflation Reduction Act is a mix of checks on Corporate Greed mixed with Job creation and Business creation that is designed to bring back new age within this new Era, more competetion, as well as improving the employment sectors's opportunies and wages. It's a big job, but it must be done, and this time Biden is saying what Obama said... We must build for the bottom up, because "trickle down does not work"... Trump's trickle down did not work, it only cut the federal tax revenue by cutting the taxes on the wealthy, which did not translate to improvement in wage for the people. In fact, Trump and Republicans fought and are still fighting against wage increase, as well as fighting against the Dept. of Education, to not make it easier for people to get higher educations.
BECAUSE Republican know... a better educated society, will awaken to see what has been done to them by Republican led policies and Right Wing Media's mind control programming.

you are correct about the FED's interest rate responsibility, but that does not occur in a vacuum
once the vietnam war was declared a victory as we lost and withdrew, inflation took hold

Because.... many of the people like those in the posted video clips... were not much into Politics during the late 1970's and 1980's because those in their 60's were in their 20's and 30's back in the late 1970's and 1980's... and it was not a lot of working class that were attentive to politics and the impact of politics, they were "working class people" challenged with jobs and it was a time they were in their early 20's to maybe 30's... when people were trying to figure out their lives, entertainment, work and trying to maintain a household. They relied on Administrations to make everything ok, because the average person during that era did not understand the impacts that politics have in the long term affects, nor the influence of what they were being fed. By the time some of those same people reached their 40's and 50's Right Wing Media has pretty much made a grip on them with "promoting the "I'm aggrieved mentality" and they tied that to Reagan's promoting of telling them government was the problem.
When fact is... Big Industry and Political Agenda to ensure Big Industry dominated over people. How can they teach themselves to see it. "THINK"... it was the time when "Big Shopping Malls sprang up, Big Box Stores dominated, and ruse of things like Walmart and Other Mega Stores destroyed small business owners, and by the 1990's and early 2000's small business owner were becoming crushed. Some saw their only hope as being able to get their products on the shelves of Mega Stores...
Small Towns and Rural Communities dried up.... Mega Auto Production Centers were falling apart, and with it the inner cities that were connected to it. Detroit and Chicago are prime examples.
The average person did not factor in to understand how "intergral the automobile" was to American Industry.... and the Supply Chain industry just became broken, and eventually much of it fell... and other parts were overtaken by Mergers and Acquisitions.

Contrast that with the fact during the late 1970's throughout the 1980's America fell behind in Education.... and College became unaffordable to the working class, by the 1990's people were even challenged to afford vocational and technical skill training and even community college. The Drug culture then simply exploded across the nation, it dominated much of the 1980's and 1990's to a high degree. Image became more important than Character Building, and during all of this, familes fractured, by the 2000's the wealth gap had become so wide, and the middle class had shrank, and communities began to show deteriotation, because the older people could not maintain them and the younger ones that inherited it, had insufficient means to even do upkeep to quality standards.

The well to do and wealthy moved into private communities, gated communities and high live monetary exclusive suburbs.... Many cities and their communities began to crumble.
After war on two countries in the early 2001 did its economic drain, then came the crash of 2007-2008... and community roadways across the entire nation fell into potholed despair.
The more that happen the more Right Wing Media blamed everything on the working class poor and then they wanted to shit the blame to blacks and immigrants. When fact is... Big Corporate had taken over "everything it could manage to do, with sight to take over even more".

Drug money replaced what the Feds removed by the late 80's and into the 90's... and housing building exploded and we saw mini malls spring up everywhere, and most of them were fitted with small stores, selling Imported goods.

People give Reagan credit for a change...but reality is... Interest rates were high, and home prices still climbed, I bought a house in 1984, and the interest rate cost me 10%.

It was an ad lib in response to Repubs howling about him saying how some of them wanted to cut or sunset social security and medicare benefits. The "conversion" was him effectively backing the GOP into a corner on on an issue they were intending to use as negotiating leverage on raising the debt ceiling and passing a budget by goaded them into publicly adopting the Democrats position that any propositions to cutting medicare and social security benefits are to be off the table for those discussions. Heck he even got them all to stand up for seniors as well. Very well played Mr Biden!
