Preferred Pronouns Are No Longer Optional

The correct pronouns are their preferred ones. And it is still very rude and disrespectful, so unprofessional, to misgender them out of their presence as well.
I appreciate that speech (and thought) control is your thing, but it's not mine.

Should you be allowed to refer to your co-workers by racial slurs then? If you found out, that your co-worker's parents were unmarried at the time of birth, should be allowed to call your co-worker the B-word?

If his co-workers found him effeminate, should they be allowed to refer to him as she/her? Natasha?

@NatMorton?

Trying to fumble for the right pronoun when you can't tell the sex of the person you are addressing is a form of respect?
Common courtesy dictates that you ask their name and their introduce yourself
But you don't offer common courtesy to trans folk because they make you question your own masculinity, huh.....

I got my popcorn out for that question.

No, I don’t. Now let’s see if you guess why.

Will it ruin their's?

I'm under no moral or ethical obligation to indulge someone's fantasies.

I'm under no legal obligation, either, regardless of what any laws say.
Absolutely. But it may have an undesirable effect on your employment. Or not.
Slippery slope.
Don't worry, nobody's going to make you wear a dress.

I never plan to address a trans person for any reason unless he/she is behind a counter serving me.
I am beyond having to question my masculinity which has never been in question before.

A man cannot wake up one day and decide he is a woman. Nor can a woman wake up one day and decide she is a man.
And yet they do anyway. Your permission or approval is not actually required.

What an embarrassment our government has become.
Between the GOP flailing around trying to elect a House leader and the Administration and military trying to find ways to pander to the LGBTQ community I just don't know which is more disgusting to think about.
SO glad I am no longer in the military.
I can't imagine what I would be thinking if I was back in basic training with all those rednecks from the South and me from a risky part of New York City.
That's some high quality whining you have going on there.

You may never see a trans in real life, but you sure are skilled at attacking them here, on an anonymous forum.
That's real "masculine".

Ha, over in another sub-forum we have a poster that's outraged if people refer to the unborn as "it."

I dont have a problem with it as a new social convention 🤷

It's not really new, as I showed. Using "they" to refer to an individual is pretty new, and also confusing in many cases.

I go with the flow unless it's a professional matter. Then I stick with what's currently grammatically acceptable or policy.

I find that respect and courtesy cost nothing and generally accrue good karma.

I don't disagree with you, but I like to be able to understand what people are saying. These days, when someone says something like "they are coming over for dinner," it's often impossible to tell how much food you have to cook.

Well, the folks objecting to using what they know someone identifies as arent helping that, are they?

And if you're cooking for people...why dont you know them? Or if a friend is bringing a guest, that's one more person. It's not that complicated.

"Hey Dad! Good News! My friend Brandon made the Volleyball Team. They're coming over for dinner to celebrate. Hope you don't mind. Gotta go, bye!"

So dad doesnt ask how many? Stupid dad will have to figure it out then, huh? Cuz it's rocket science to call back and ask the kid: how many? Or, googles how many people on a VB team, adds a few to be safe...and off he goes! Amazing!

We're talking about words here. Yes, this is a whole thread with hundreds of posts, about people getting upset about what words other people use.

The point of using words is to communicate. If we have to go multiple laps to communicate simple concepts, something is broken.
