Poll Finds Sharp Boost in US Global Image Since Biden Took Office

In the poll results the characteristics attributed to Trump most strongly were 'dangerous' and 'arrogant'. Not the image any country wants to project to allies. But I think Trump intentionally set out to cultivate this image.
Trump was all about nationalism, self-interest and isolationist policy. It was a reflection of his own 'personality'.

Characterizing allies as the enemy and vice-versa was a regular thing with Trump.
Do you have any evidence that Donald Trump ever on ironically called Europeans are enemies? And besides aren’t Russians European? Even if your theory was true, it would still be false. I don’t see where Trump list of the polls are the Hungarians is enemies. So clearly not all Europeans were rolled into whatever you’re referencing.
Allan's link is one example of dozens. Don't pretend you don't know he did this, it's one of the main reasons you like him. You're anti-EU, anti-democracy, pro-Russia, and pro-dictatorship.

You see the EU as our enemies and Russia as our friend so why are you trying to cover up Trump saying the same?

I said they were “worse then enemies” not that they were “enemies” and now you have to prove this was meant literally and not figuratively. This is obviously figurative use.

I do like Trump for the idea we don’t need to start wars and police the world.
You're anti-EU,
well it’s literally in my DNA, what can I tell you?

anti-democracy,
everyone is anti-democracy. No one supports democracy when it presents a roadblock to what they want to do. Google “prop 8 California”
pro-Russia,
I am pro not being Russia’s enemy on the count of I do not believe them to be enemies of us because they cannot be a threat to the US homeland.
and pro-dictatorship.
depends on the dictatorship

I do not view the EU as our enemy, nor Russia as our friend.

Yes you do. You're constantly pining for Putin and his brutal dictatorship and want America to be like that. You ignore direct quotes from Trump because you're dishonest and have an agenda.

Also, you're American, not Norwegian, and your politics are considered abhorrent in both countries.

no i addressed the direct quote in its obvious context. You of course know this already.

I do not see Putin as an enemy. I have never called for him to be the leader of America, only that I believe he’s the right leader for Russia and has done a great job, especially compared to the feeble alcoholic Yeltsin and Bernie Sanders economic advisor Jeffrey Sachs.

Also, you're American, not Norwegian, and your politics are considered abhorrent in both countries.
I think in modern Norway my social views would not be appreciated, however King Haakon and I would probably agree on 90%. I think Norway’s most celebrated writer Sigrid Undset and I would get along great. And if you’ve never read Kristin Lavransdatter it’s a wonderful series. It got the Nobel prize back when worthy authors were getting it for talent and not for making up a fake story of oppression in Guatemala.

I don’t like to think of my political philosophy as abhorrent, merely heterodox

As much as you wish it wasn't the case, what other countries think of the US and how much they trust us is incredibly important for advancing our agenda. When the people in other countries hate and distrust America, their politicians will too.

Our allies didn't like Trump making them all America's enemies while he constantly praised and befriended Putin.
You hit on a very clear point. Trump and his supporters for the most part are ignorant of geo politics.

You mean that European countries didn’t like the idea of not being able to leach off of the US.
In a working marriage, not one partner leaches off another, in fact they co-operate, so one partner, say the husband as example, doesn't dictate to his wife what she should be or should not being doing, or lord his superiority over her - that is a formula for disaster.
This attitude some of the folks on the Right have, that might makes right, has always been a failed formula. I suspect many of the same people who claim Europe are leaching off of the US are the same people who have never traveled to Europe or gotten to know their people. They are also the same people who feel sanctimonious about telling other nations how to behave, but if other nations tell the US how to behave, oh THAT is verboten - because dontcha know, no one tells the mighty US how to behave or what to do, right??

Nobody "leaches" off the US. What a dumb suggestion-unless you can prove me wrong. Go ahead...
There are many Americans who think that way, they are the ones who watch or listen to rightwing media, seldom travel outside their comfort zone, or even visit Europe.

Yes, also 'if it wasn't for the US you'd be speaking German/Russian/Chinese'. The myth of American exceptionalism force-fed from birth, with a healthy dose of nationalistic arrogance. Always guaranteed to win friends. I have experienced them here as tourists; loud, arrogant, complaining and demanding. A complete contrast to many of the charming, cultured and educated Americans I have befriended over the years.

Let's dispense with the silly Republican-favored notion, that I've been hearing since Bush invaded Iraq, that if America is pissing everyone off it must be doing something right.

If all your friends think you're a c***, you probably are.
To say that pissing everyone else off is a sign of correctness is as absurd a notion as saying pleasing everyone else is a sign of correctness.

Truth and ethical centeredness is not a popularity contest.

And as much as I hate the Bush/Cheney administration I don’t ever remember either of them saying that pissing everyone else off is proof of right doing.

I should also mention that the 16 year debacle of Bush/Obama and the destabilization of the the entire region from Damascus to Baghdad to Tripoli by the US was a principle reason I left the US.

It's good to see that Trump doesn't seem to have caused long term harm to US reputation. I think most people understand any country at any time can elect a moron as leader. Can happen to the best of us.
The proof is in the pudding so to speak; in this case, that means signed agreements. From that perspective, so far there is scant evidence that things have improved. I hope you are right, but I suspect Trump’s decision to scrap the Iran agreement simply because Obama’s name was associated with it, will have catastrophic long term consequences for the United States. After that debacle there is no reason for any nation to take us at our word for more than a couple of years.

No, I mean Trump actively labeled Europeans as our enemies while praising and celebrating Putin.
I had never seen that. Please elaborate. What Anti capitalist propaganda did you get that from?

It is an extremely rare event for the US to break an international agreement they were so invested in. Hopefully the Iran deal is seen as a once-in-a-lifetime aberration and future negotiations can proceed with confidence in US commitments.

It's all about perception. People quickly perceived Trump as a lying, ignorant and inept scumbag who managed to alienate everyone he came across-America's friends and allies alike. Biden is doing his best to heal those rifts and is evidently succeeding.
Yes, because the leftists media has brainwashed so many.

I think reasonable people will agree his policies and viewpoints were dangerous to liberalism and socialism.

Better go read the actual survey. That's not the gist of what people were saying.

That's the type of thing Rachael Maddow would say.

It's not The Independent, it's Trump's own words.

Who was surveyed? After the opening of the article, the rest was paywalled. Do you have a link for the survey.

Absolutely not true. He was for this nation first, but not at the exclusion of others. He wasn't an isolationist. He just wanted fair trade, instead of what the past sell-out presidents have done to our industry and jobs.

Where do you guys get this horse puckey from?

Good because everyone knows that the quality of any political system is best determined by the consensus of outside parties.
I don't think "everyone" knows that, and nobody but you has proffered that idea. Try again, something intelligent this time.

Yes, there are hundreds of lies about our former president. He was a danger to the left elitists, and they did every thing they could to destroy him.
