Many reporters, photographers and press advocates said the treatment of journalists by police officers in recent days reflected an erosion of trust in the news media that has seeped into law enforcement under President Trump, who has deemed critical coverage of his administration “fake news” and has frequently labeled some news organizations and journalists with variants of the phrase “enemies of the people.”

In a sign that police officers would not follow the customary hands-off approach, Minnesota State Patrol officers arrested a CNN reporting team live on the air on Friday. That same day, a TV reporter in Louisville, Ky., was hit by a pepper ball by an officer who appeared to be aiming at her while she covered the protest on live television.

Tyler Blint-Welsh, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, said he was hit multiple times by police officers while covering a protest in New York on Sunday. “I was backing away as request, with my hands up,” Mr. Blint-Welsh, who is black, wrote on Twitter. “My NYPD-issued press badge was clearly visible.” (He declined to comment for this article.)

The article gives a number of similar examples of police violence against the media.

And what else would we expect, given the constant drumbeat of inflammatory rhetoric against the media from Trump and many of his Republican supporters?

Absolutely disgusting. We have some truly despicable people in law enforcement.

Sometimes you have to squash some rights to uphold the glory and honor of Trump.

lol

"Erosion of trust in the news media"

Should anyone be surprised?

Genuinely expecting to make a public appearance in a custom made military uniform and complete the tinpot look.

Ummm...

Sorry media. You get into the middle of a battle zone, don't expect a press badge to stop friendly fire.

And NYT...instead of making **** up about police being influenced by Trump, how about doing your job and asking the police what's going on?

Wow, even Fox "News" is unhappy with cop violence against the media:

This is a heartbreaking time for our country, and journalists are caught squarely in the middle.

In covering the riots that have gripped cities across the country, they have been arrested, assaulted and shot, in some cases seemingly targeted by aggressive police tactics and in others besieged by angry protesters.

I don’t expect much sympathy for my much-maligned profession, but it’s a reminder that many journalists don’t just sit in climate-controlled studios, and a reflection of the broader fissions in our society.

At the same time, the media’s relentless focus on President Trump has cast him as essentially missing in action during this crisis, which may have prompted him--four hours after his press secretary said there was no need for a speech--to make a Rose Garden statement last night.

And by declaring “I am your president of law and order,” he followed the Nixon playbook of 1968 and sought to make violent protest, not police brutality, the dominant issue in this election year.

Actually, considering this is all happening in the US...it's worse.

This is just "some" of the battle reports across the country.

Yep. Unsurprisingly, 400+ years of continuous systemic racism and oppression can lead to this kind of ****.

Still not a warzone or battle ground. These types of protests and riots are not new either but from everything being reported the attacks on journalists during these latest round of riots are unprecedented. It’s not even like crossfire stuff either, it’s deliberately targeting them. I saw one man arrested, a couple of cameramen deliberately charged down, one journalist who was stood alone away from a crowd was shot in the neck.

Law enforcement couldn't possibly have come to that conclusion on their own. It has to be Trump - so says the media who considers themselves objective. :lamo

Come on, you know that before Trump the media was always surveyed at like 154% favorability, right? I mean, that’s almost as high as Congress!

Nonsense.

Nothing I presented has to do with racism or oppression. It is all due to lawbreakers taking advantage of chaos.
