Trump will be blamed for all the troubles of the US for at least the next few decades. All-purpose excuses - slavery for example - are extremely useful and not lightly given up.

Defunding the US police may turn out to be a slow process. Taking away all their powers - and guns! - could be useful quick fix.

The only thing being held hostage is your brain by Fox News. Citizens in Portland are going about their lives without fear each and everyday. The only problem area is just a small block where each night the storm troopers and a small number protesters show up each night like regularly scheduled sporting event. Surprised there are;t vendors hawking hot dogs and peanuts with pennants supporting whichever side you're cheering for. But who knows, maybe there are. Take out the storm troopers and things will go back to being quiet again. The local government said their presence would provoke unrest and indeed it has.

That's not going to happen. Not via Biden and Harris anyways. It may happen by default of Trump and the GOP's refusal to provide relief funding for the states who will soon be faced with making some hard decisions due to sharply depressed revenues as a result of the COVID crisis. Budgetary constraints may force them to have to curtail essential services such as policing. So who really is the law and order party now?

Who? You mean, the federal police that were protecting a handful of buildings? Again, these groups were attacking those buildings (really one). The buildings weren't moving around.

But the federal police left these buildings entrusted to the state police, who gave up on the city in disgust and moved their attention elsewhere. Now the mob has turned on the local police.

Who gave these 'judges' the power to send workers to prison? They must be replaced by People's Courts. Those in China some years ago provide the pattern and an example of efficiency. They could accuse, convict, condemn and execute an Enemy of the People in 17 minutes - 15 minutes on a good day. Now that's real democracy in action.
