Poland is going off script. Messing up all the hard work that had gone into shaping the narrative of the new world order. In this new script pushed by Bruxelles there are only angels and demons, and Europe is a Garden. A Garden of Eden as conceptualized by the Catalan Josep Borrell Fontelles. Beyond Europe is a jungle. Inhabited by demons. All of them Russian.

In the European script Ukrainians are angels. Volodymyr Oleksandrovych Zelensky is nothing short of Michael the Archangel. Ukraine a pearl of great price. The soul of Europe. Which brings us to the problem posed by the Polish Accusation. It is a Remembrance but also an Accusation. How can Europe be a Garden of Eden if its heart, Ukraine, is guilty of genocide?

He might as well pull out now. All it takes is one 'Nay!' vote to keep Ukraine out of NATO.

Or they are literally just remembering the murder of tens of thousands of Polish civilians at the hands of Nazi collaborators, and setting up a memorial for them.

The Remembrance Day for the victims of Volhynia massacre has nothing to do with Russia. It is a purely Polish grievance for the massacre on Poles by Ukrainian Nationalists. The Remembrance Day is worrisome to Ukraine in the sense that it also keeps alive a claim to western Ukraine by Poland. The part that was part of Poland in the interwar years

Ukraine wants the matter in its rearview mirror. Ukraine wants the matter forgotten. If paying tribute leads to that end, then all the tributes the Poles want. But a designated Remembrance Day means instead of the matter in Ukraine's rearview mirror, it is now galloping ahead of Ukraine into its future.

Keep in mind also that the area of Poland where the genocide took place is in Ukraine. This was a part of Poland of interwar years that was ceded to the Ukrainian SSR in the Stalin post war settlement. So the Remembrance Day also keeps alive a Polish land claim on Ukraine
 

Commemorating it together isn't putting it in the rear view mirror.

Maybe Ukraine shouldn’t honor the fascist thugs who carried out the massacres as national heroes if they don’t want people talking about said massacres.
 
You can’t “pay tribute to the victims” while honoring the people who carried out the atrocities as national heroes.
 
Yeah, my point was that if Ukraine ever wanted NATO membership it sounds like Poland might be the dissenting vote that keeps them out. Far as I know it has to be unanimous.

Might depend on who is in power. Poland has been one of Ukraine's strongest allies in the EU for obvious reasons..

Poland has indeed been rather mercenary in their supposed care about the abuses of the Third Reich. Whenever Brussels wanted them to not brutally abuse the non-white, non- Christian refugees fleeing from places like Syria, out came the squealing about the “Fourth Reich”.

But that doesn’t change the historical facts.

They're both seen by Russia as a buffer zone between Europe and the Motherland.
 
Gee, coming from the guy who keeps going on about the War of 1812 and the abortive US invasion of Canada that’s ****ing laughable.

I get that Canada would have proudly fought side by side with Nazi Germany if only it had been given the chance, much like America, but that doesn’t change the facts.

Poland has seen itself as a would be ruler of Eastern Europe for centuries. They’ve never forgiven Russia for crushing the empire they did have.
 

The current event fact is that they share a concern about the abuses of Russia.
