Can't you set up your gun on a tripod or something and wire it into your warm living room, so you can shoot "outside" without getting cold.

Where's the fun in that?

Perish the thought, you're trying to tell people how to defend themselves ?

Another form of baiting is known as “derailing” or “thread-jacking”. This is deliberate act of making statements with an aim of diverting the topic of a thread significantly from its main focus. These negative forms of baiting constitute a rules violation that can potentially lead to a suspension of posting privileges.

Well there "hunters" why lie in wait in those "tree chars" for their prey

I've actually seen ads when the gun is triggered remotely and ads from butchers who'll retrieve your kill, cut it up for you, and deliver it to your doorstep.

You know....I think I am going to clear a decent lane on our property back through the woods; something about 50 meters long, and about 5-8 wide.

With the warmer weather, I would rather shoot outside than inside, ( always have) and no longer having to worry about northern winters, I can shoot in a more relaxed setting.

how far from the end of your 50m shoot will there be animal life present, and will there be any barricade to prevent your rounds from entering an area occupied by those animals/persons?

Do what the army does and build a sandbank

Every few years, you can filter it through for valuable lead.

Thats the purpose of the box trap at the end of the lane; the land rises up 15-20 meters above where I am envisioning the box trap, and we own the land ( no homes or public right of ways) for quite some distance out; a total of 133 acres.

I have something like this in mind, but larger, and the backside will be a sand pile around the railroad ties.

Totally no fun in that. 90% of the fun is sitting in the woods, enjoying the peace and quiet without some ****ing idiot yapping about some bull**** that make a damn bit of sense on TV and watching nature do it's thing because most of the critters don't notice you. I've watched way more deer than I've killed. Does with their fawns, showing them how to browse for food. Yearling bucks on their own for the first time, finding their way in life. I watched a yearling doe and a baby coon discover each other one day and sit there and check each other out. The doe was curious and the coon was eating acorns, looking at the doe like, "what the **** you lookin at?"

You may as well be out fishing.

with that 50-60' rise behind the targeting area, you should be in great shape to avoid any errant rounds

That'd be a good setup. The only thing that would concern me is the lane you cut through the woods. You'll have to put up warning signs on trees near the lane. That's why I prefer using a field. Although I've shot on my property both in deep woods and in a field. All kinds of shooting from target to skeet with 1/3 the acreage you have and in the suburbs.

There's a reason why gun ranges don't install a bar so you can enjoy a beer while you shoot...

My range has a bar/restaurant that serves beer & wine. People just follow the rules and common sense and drink responsibly AFTER shooting---never before. Then they drive responsibly too.

What do you think about gun owners (like the young McMichael boy involved in the recent murder of an unarmed jogger in Brunswick, Ga) who lose their handguns where they leave them in an unsecured vehicle ?

Same way I think about the cop (Federal agent) who lived his gun in his car and it was stolen and then used to murder Kate Steinle on that pier in San Francisco. The gun owner should pay a heavy penalty for that kind of thing. Never leave anything in a car. We don't leave our kids or pets in a car, we shouldn't leave unsecured guns in cars either--- bring them with you or leave them at home.

When I was on vacation in Florida and we went to Disneyworld they had a sign that said no guns in the park but I brought mine anyway because I figured it was safer with me then left in the car or in the hotel room. But that was before they put metal detectors in. I figured it wasn't a problem if nobody ever saw.... or more importantly heard my gun.

And hunters don't drink beer while hunting ?

It isn't a good idea, because deer can smell it, not to mention you have to piss a lot. Plus, there's the logistics of getting iced down beer to the stand, then in the stand, then toting the empty cans/bottles out when you leave. Too much trouble, IMO. And counter-productive.

Key word "AFTER"

I used to frequent a golf driving range with a long bar...a group of use would get a butt and while one was swinging away, the rest of us drank a pint while waiting our turn. It was a very relaxing evening

I agree with you, a heavy penalty indeed

One benefit of requiring all gun owners to hold a license to own/buy a gun or ammunition it that it can be surrendered/suspended for a period for transgressions like this.
Say a month, 6 months, 12 months
Longer suspensions for repeat offences or misuse like waving a gfun to settle a road rage argument.

I think they'd smell the hunter's breath and body odor sooner...which is why I thought hunters approached their prey from downwind of it.

They can, but you can mask that smell. Beer and urine? That's a guaranteed no bagger.

Thing is that in many jurisdictions there are tons of criminal statutes already on the books which are not being enforced, what is the point of adding more gun laws which in effect are only directed at already law abiding citizens? Like this law that California put in last year where a person must REGISTER and show I.D. in order to buy ammo. There are already laws which prohibit criminals, felons, drug users, illegal aliens, anyone with a domestic violence conviction from legally owning a firearm in that state. So what does the ammo law do other than penalize and the people who aren't criminals?

I say start by enforcing current laws already on the books, and go after the CRIMINALS, and leave the law abiding folks alone.

Yet gun crime is very rare in the UK, but drugs are common
Maybe there's just more of a demand for drugs in the UK than there is for guns.

Proving you can't stop drugs (including alcohol if you tried) but you can stop (or at least severely restrict) gun supply
On the contrary YouTube

It affects the demand curve and that affects the supply curve
Something doesn't have to be addictive for there to be a demand for it.

So what does it take?

A hand gun is worth what about $500 ?

How much volume is $500 of pure heroin

Which is easier to smuggle ?
Which offers the greater financial rewards ?
And in the video I linked an illegal handgun can be obtained for far less than $500 and sold for more, I would say it would be quite profitable.

the laws that are designed to harass those who can legally own firearms are intended to do just that-harass lawful gun owners.
