Photobucket Just Broke Billions of Photos Across the Web

Goodbye Photobucket.

If you use photobucket you already know about this. $400.00 to get your account back where you can hotlink photos to forums like this.

This has millions furious. Will it backfire?

Will enough people fork over $400.00 to keep Photobucket solvent?

HA HA HA HA HA...

Are they serious? They seriously think people are going to pay hundreds of dollars for a service that was free just the other day, which also has tons of free competitors, and that has been rapidly becoming technologically outdated and irrelevant to almost everyone?

Bye bye, Photobucket.

I sure as hell won't be paying $400. I never posted a photo on there that I didn't have stored elsewhere, and that I needed to display for more than just a few hours. Most other people didn't either, and I seriously doubt any significant proportion of them will have any reaction other than to laugh at this and move on to some other service (assuming they even need that in 2017, which most of us don't -- I haven't used mine in probably 4 or 5 years).

Ok, so what is your suggestion to keep the company afloat?

Who said they were going under before this? They did have ad revenue.

I would have been willing to pay up to $50.00 a year. With 100,000,000 users you'd think that would have been ample.

They're ****ed now. They shot themselves in the foot with a ballistic missile.

They can bring the price down at a reasonable level and they still have millions of angry customers.

Literally anything less drastic and underhanded than this, really. I'm sure there's tons of people who would have supported them if they'd approached it in some way other than, "BROKE ALL YOUR **** WITHOUT WARNING. Now give us tons of money right now." Surely they saw this coming and could have paced things out a bit or offered more reasonable rates. This is a PR disaster I doubt they'll recover from.

I stopped using PB years ago. Imgur is pretty good and simple. With Flickr you need an email.

Photobucket started to suck a while back. Whatever they had going on their load times were pitiful and it might be half an hour between the time you edited a pic to the tile the edit was live.

I left a ton of stuff over there but cest la vie. I'll probably start using Google Images instead.

I'm on Imgur now but my pics are avatar size. Will have to figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Pisses me off too, Luther.
But.......that's what happens when someoe loads their site down with animated/regular advertisments

This seems like a really stupid business move. I don't begrudge a free service wanting to start charging with ample warning time. But going from $0 to $399/year? That's insane.

Yup. Free account. Been using it for about 9 years.

Well, I'm glad it's working for you. However, you appear to be part of a huge minority.

I dunno. All I see is I tried posting a link from my PB account and it worked. It might not tomorrow. Or the day after.

We shall see. Sorry to hear of your broke links.

I have about 600 images uploaded over the years, but was pretty pissed with them about 6 - 8 months or so ago when they decided to not allow full pages to be displayed, or not allowing key word searches -- making it damn near impossible to find older images without scroll back page after page after page. I kinda gave up on them, with the exception of a few uploads here and there, easily accessible on the first page or so.

Well, they were good while they lasted.

It was a pretty good service. I can't say I didn't get my moneys worth. It would have been nice to get a little more notice though. I'm thinking about just making my own simple webpage and host my own pics there.
