It is amazing to me how quickly people forget or dont care about history. I waited a few days to see if anyone posted much about the fact that WWII ended 75 years ago. Not much mention at all. Millions died, and the US won. Yet it is just us old people that remember it. My two brothers were in the war. What is sad about not mentioning it is the fact it should be warning the world about big government socialism. We really should remember that in the 20th century socialism KILLED nearly 100,000,000 people. History should tell us NOT to do that again.

Even worse I guess is the fact that only a short time ago was 9-11. Three thousand Americans were killed my muslim terrorist. We will have to see how much mention it gets.

I lay all this forgetfulness at the door step of our education system. They spend too much damn time brain washing students about the joys of socialism rather than teaching real history.

I don't know about where you all live, but holidays like Veterans Day and Memorial Day here is basically just another work day. Kids go to school, everyone works a normal work day unless you happen to work for the government which is a holiday to you. Banks and Post Office are closed. But that's it.

You see very little ceremonies, only those sponsored by the American Legion or VFW. Then there sparsely attended. These were big holidays when I was a kid with parades and the like with everyone off for the day. Times change. Also, 6 June I didn't hear one word about D Day. I suppose WWII is ancient history to most. Then with the volunteer military, most families don't have kin that served anymore.

Novel viruses arise from mutations in existing strains. That’s why you need a flu vaccine against novel flu strains every year. Some of them, like the H1N1 a few years ago, are more virulent than others.
