People ARE forgetting history.

It is amazing to me how quickly people forget or dont care about history. I waited a few days to see if anyone posted much about the fact that WWII ended 75 years ago. Not much mention at all. Millions died, and the US won. Yet it is just us old people that remember it. My two brothers were in the war. What is sad about not mentioning it is the fact it should be warning the world about big government socialism. We really should remember that in the 20th century socialism KILLED nearly 100,000,000 people. History should tell us NOT to do that again.

Even worse I guess is the fact that only a short time ago was 9-11. Three thousand Americans were killed my muslim terrorist. We will have to see how much mention it gets.

I lay all this forgetfulness at the door step of our education system. They spend too much damn time brain washing students about the joys of socialism rather than teaching real history.

Everything from NATO, to the EU, to the UN, to attempts to check corrupt strongmen from demagoguery and stoking unbridled nationalism, racial, ethnic, and religious bigotry and hatred, to get and maintain power, bigotry, to the passage of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to strong funding and propagation of scientific education and expertise, etc... was created after the horrors of WWII to prevent anything like that from ever happening again.

All of those ideals are now under siege by the cult of Trump. They are the only ones who seem to have forgotten the harsh lessons of that war. “Never again” seems to have turned to “here we go again”.

How come you didn’t start your own thread commemorating the anniversary of the war ending? Instead we get this crybaby effort whining about young people and socialism. Incidentally, the warning from history we should heed is not allowing populist types like Mussolini and Hitler gain too much power.
