Pennsylvania asks court to allow ballots to be received three days after Election Day due to Postal

That's not how it works, your ballot is for your district. You don't get to ship it around. But you know that, you're just making a ridiculous argument because you have nothing left to argue.

No, requiring ballots to be counted after election day that can be cast after election day is a ridiculous argument since it takes all of a day to deliver local machinable mail.

That's not what they USPS is saying. That's why PA is asking for more time. Trump and his Postmaster General crony have undercut the USPS and in an election that is expecting >70% mail in voting, that impacts the ability of the USPS to get it delivered on time. That's the entire point of this.

But again, you know this. Your arguments are just deflections so that we don't discuss that fundamental.

Not discuss the fundamentals? You have consistently mischaracterized Trump's statements, denied facts, made excuse after excuse after excuse for the inability of people to even function, let alone do so in a timely manner. If you do not get your ballot and mail it back in a timely fashion, it should not be counted period. I am sure the day after the dems lose the WH yet again they will have some sad story of somebody with coronavirus who wasn't able to mail their slip of paper for 2 weeks after election day and how they were disenfranchised by Trump. Hell, I doubt the democrats make it to that Friday before they start their next impeachment inquiry.

This thread isn't about Trump.

This thread is about a state fighting a criminal executive who is attempting to undermine free and fair elections. You don't need to tell me what it's about.

Also, I thought of more!

- Using your position to enrich yourself (tried to use Doral for the G7 and tried to bully GB into moving the British Open to his Scotland resort).
- Colluding with foreign dictators at the expense of your constituents.

It appears you're all about law and order and adherence to the constitution unless a Democrat is president.

Anywho - have fun with your bait thread!

This stunt by the dictator wannabe is really blowing up in his face.

American's don't like naked attempts to supress votes.

The thing is - there's nothing anyone can or will do about it. It would take Republican lawmakers to do their job and hold trump accountable for his corruption - they've proven they're not willing to do that :(

I'm not ignoring facts. Even the link in the OP backs up my claim.

The U.S. Postal Service has warned Pennsylvania that some mail ballots might not be delivered on time because the state’s deadlines are too tight for its “delivery standards,” prompting election officials to ask the state Supreme Court to extend the deadlines to avoid disenfranchising voters…

[Postal Service general counsel Thomas] Marshall’s letter represented “a significant change to the outlook for voting by mail in the general election,” the Department of State told the court in its filing. Before the July 29 warning, the department said, “the Postal Service had not indicated the likelihood of widespread, continuing, multiple-day mail-delivery delays presenting an overwhelming, statewide risk of disenfranchisement for significant numbers of voters utilizing mail-in ballots.”…

Some counties set up drop boxes in the primary election so voters could hand-deliver their ballots without relying on the mail. But the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee have sued the state to block drop boxes from being used in November.

So the USPS is warning that the cuts will cause delays in delivering mail. PA tried to put in drop boxes, but Trump is suing to stop them.

So there's no misrepresentation here. Trump is trying to rig a system to harm mail-in voting, interfering with a free election for his own gain, and PA is just asking for the time to account for the delays that will occur because of Trump's toadie Postmaster General has caused with cuts and shutting down sorting machines.

Those are the facts, you can deal with them if you want, or continue with the deflection tactics.

Your very own link says that the Post Office has "not indicated the likelihood of widespread, continuing, multiple-day mail-delivery delays presenting an overwhelming, statewide risk of disenfranchisement for significant numbers of voters utilizing mail-in ballots" yet here you are claiming they did. If the deadlines are tight then the Court should expand them instead of prolonging the election.

Well, the lawmakers are up for re-election, and this stuff pisses off the electorate, left and right.

It said prior to the July 29 warning it hadn't stated that there would be problems. But now that they have no overtime hours, regulations against picking up extra mail if it extends their routes, closing down sorting machines, etc. they have deemed that there is a problem. And thus they sent out a warning.

It started with "[Postal Service general counsel Thomas] Marshall’s letter represented “a significant change to the outlook for voting by mail in the general election,” " It's a significant change in the outlook for voting. Earlier they didn't have a concern, but now there is a significant change in the outlook of voting by mail, so there is.

This is pretty clear. You're just using dishonest arguments to try to pretend the PA USPS didn't say what it actually said.

Nope. What he said was that the state window was very tight. The judge can just as easily order the state to mail out everything earlier instead of extending the deadline they are due back, but that doesn't fit your victim narrative so you cannot even see it in your Everyone who isn't on our squad is the enemy world view.

Yes, he said some ballots may not be delivered in time because the deadlines are too tight. The reason it became too tight was because of all the monkeying that Trump and his toadie did to undercut the USPS. So PA is trying to widen the deadlines for ballots being counted in order to account for this dynamic.

Jesus.

This isn't rocket science.

Yes, but several Republicans are on the ballot in this upcoming election and they will benefit from voter suppression, thus making it harder to have the fair election that will flip their seats to Democrat. Bottom line: the trump-lick-cans are all criminal co-conspirators turning this nation into a banana republic.

More false characterizations. We've already bailed them out once this year and now they want even more money. There is only one honest voice on the left on this and it isn't that of whoever wrote your talking points of the week:

"It’s tempting to blame all of the Postal Service’s service problems on the new postmaster general, DeJoy, but it wouldn’t be entirely fair. After years of money problems tied to a decline in certain types of mail and an obligation to prefund its retirement benefits, the USPS suffered a very serious financial blow when the pandemic hit.

Starting in March, the volume of first-class mail began to plummet (though a surge in package delivery has helped make up for that lost revenue). Meanwhile, tens of thousands of postal workers got sick or began quarantining, leading to a labor shortage and the need for more overtime hours. The Postal Service also spent hundreds of millions of dollars on personal protective equipment (PPE) and on retrofitting post offices with more plexiglass and more space for social distancing.

This is why postal leaders asked Congress for $75 billion when the CARES Act was being negotiated in April. (This is not something the USPS likes to do, by the way. It’s been 40 years since the Postal Service took taxpayer dollars.) In response, President Trump called the Postal Service “a joke” and threatened to veto the bill if it included any money for the USPS. Despite the president’s attempts to avoid giving the Postal Service any money at all, the agency ended up making an agreement with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin for a $10 billion loan with strict terms.
