…. are rare in Germany.

But I have some.

And seen today … the first one starts to show flowers! ❤️❤️❤️

WHO else has palm trees in the garden?

Sometimes my palm trees are snow.covered

But that would be pretty rare, wouldn't it? I've only ever seen palm trees survive long term where it's pretty warm all the time.

There are types of palms that can survive 20 degrees or less.

Even snow is no match for the most resilient palm varieties

Funny it says 20 degrees or less, but I only found one that's recommended for zone 6 and up. The lowest on all the other was zone 8. (We are supposed to be in zone 6 now but I think that's kind of iffy.) But reading through these, I find the Cabbage Palm can take cold down to 10-15 degrees, the European Fan Palm as low as 5, the Chilean Wine Palm down to 7, the Jelly Palm down to single digits, and the Saw Palmetto down to 0! I imagine it's for short periods at these temperatures, but it seem like they should expand the zones for these plants. Thanks!

Edited: Oh, and the Needle Palm -5 to -15! But it doesn't really seem like a plam tree.

These two Mediterranean Palms are on the lot we used to rent.

Vancouver has some palm trees. Looks weird.

I'd like to try a few of those on that list, but with my luck they would decide they don't tolerate the cold after all.

My Palm trees can stand up to minus 16 degrees

Mediterranean fan palms survive down to at least zero f.

Yep, but some of their fronds don’t.
I'm actually looking at one in the neighbor's yard as I type, and yeah, it didn't look too happy after a big freeze we had several years ago.

I sure looked cool under two feet of snow we had more recently, though.

G

trachycarpus Fortunei … German: Hanfpalme

That comes up as Windmill or Chinese Windmill Palm - says it can withstand temps as low as 5 degrees, and even down to 0 for a short time. I like it!

The Palm Flower is getting greater
