Where are the Senate and House hearings? This is worse than Katrina. Obama is asleep, and doing nothing.by Andrew Gully Andrew Gully

.WASHINGTON (AFP) – Right-wing darling Sarah Palin accused US President Barack Obama on Sunday of leading a lax response to the Gulf of Mexico spill because he is too close to the big oil companies.
The former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor, who champions off-shore drilling, criticized the media for not drawing the link between Obama and big oil and said if this spill had happened under former Republican president George W. Bush the scrutiny would have been far tougher.
"I don't know why the question isn't asked by the mainstream media and by others if there's any connection with the contributions made to president Obama and his administration and the support by the oil companies to the administration," she told Fox News Sunday.
More than 3.5 million dollars has been given to candidates by BP over the last 20 years, with the largest single donation, 77,051 dollars, going to Obama, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.
Palin suggested this close relationship explained why Obama was, "taking so doggone long to get in there, to dive in there, and grasp the complexity and the potential tragedy that we are seeing here in the Gulf of Mexico."
"Sarah Palin was involved in that election, but I don't think, apparently, was paying a whole lot of attention," Gibbs said.
"If you look back at what happened in Katrina, the government wasn't there to respond to what was happening. That quite frankly was the problem.
Then Gibbs turns around with another bald faced lie.
It seems Gibbs cannot grasp the basics of modern history, or doesn't care... knowing the press will cover his lame ass.
When referencing Katrina, he means Bush of course, but the problem was the local authorities. Bush offered assistance, monitored the situation, and then was lambasted for the incompetence of Mayor School Bus Nagin and the state.
Obama on the other hand was too busy doing what he loves to do. Smash his enemies (Republicans) on the campaign trail while the oil spill was well under way.
What has Obi done?
Where is his great leadership?
The superior judgment he claimed he had during the election?
Where is it?
If this were the military, Obi would be charged with dereliction of duty; sleeping at his guard post.

Until you can prove that 2000 people died because of Bush (which IS your point), you can run along. You think $100B will cover the damage caused by this oil spill? I'll bet you do.Are you being sarcastic because until almost 2000 people die and nearly 100 billion dollars of damages are done, I don't think you can make a convincing argument that its worse or even just as bad as Katrina.

Actually thats not my point. I don't blame Bush for any of the people who died during or as a result of Katrina. I'm just trying to grade and judge two disasters on their "merits" and I'm simply stating that its clear that this oil spill isn't as bad as hurricane Katrina.
However, administration lies and inactivity aren't helping things either... When does this administration take charge of anything other than banks, auto industries, and our liberties?

Huffington Post said:"I'm as good a Democrat as most people, and I think this administration has done some good things. They are risking everything by this 'go along with BP' strategy they have that seems like, lackadaisical on this, and Doug is right, they seem like they're inconvenienced by this, this is some giant thing getting in their way and somehow or another, if you let BP handle it, it'll all go away. It's not going away. It's growing out there. It is a disaster of the first magnitude, and they've got to go to Plan B."
When Obama loses Carville, it's time to start to take notice.
James Carville Takes On Obama On Oil Spill: He's 'Risking Everything' With 'Go Along With BP Strategy'
Obama and his administration is sitting back and waiting during possibly a huge disaster. The fact is we really don't know where the oil is. We estimate how much is spilling out into the Gulf but where's it all going? The majority of it is not washing up on the beaches. Where is it? Where's it going? What's it affecting? What are the implications? Who will ultimately be affected? What long term will be affected?
Don't know. And to sit back and just say "BP is handling it. Everything that can be done is being done." is a lie. If the WH wanted to, they could be putting many more resources out there finding out where this oil is going. Having daily assessments to the American people. Identifying the costs, bringing in additional experts and working WITH BP until this is fixed and THEN review, have Senate hearings, and get the lawyers involved. But like always, this Admin is ass backwards and pushed the lawyers out first and is waiting to see about the rest. They COULD do more but they're choosing not to and I want to know why?
What do people expect Obama to do?
I think I stated he would add more resources to find out where this oil is going, what it's doing to the environment, adding more resources to containment, add more thinkers to how to lessen the effects, identify long term effects
communicate on a daily basis about what's going on and what's being done and telling us what the Government is doing to protect the people this might affect.

That is Governments prime job right? Protection of it's people?
Well, I know it because it's not being communicated. You see, politicians don't do a damn thing unless they get credit for it and when do something, they let the people KNOW they are doing something so they can use it to their advantage later. How do you know he hasn't been doing that?
I don't see the importance of this. They don't need to tell us what they will do, they need to just do it and we can form our opinions on the situation on what they do or don't do ratehr than what they say.
