Ottawa's core locked down as police prepare to move on protesters

And if the Republicans were serious they would add economically sanctioning Canada to the platform for 2022. after all we want to develop democracy and human rights abroad.
How can you possibly think this way and be a supporter of Trump. Are you that brainwashed?

Don't worry, the whole world is getting a quite complete view of "Canadian Democracy" this week;)
That's what pisses you lot off the most, the contrast between the US and Canada.

It's not even the Canadian law that affects them. America requires them to be vaccinated so nearly all of them are but they disrupt the lives of hundreds of people to protest the fact that they need the same proof America asks for to come back from the States?
I'm at a loss here. What did they want Trudeau to do, change the American vaccine requirement? Somewhere around day three it must have dawned on them so their whole shtick became some vague protest against mask mandates and Covid restrictions generally, stuff the federal government has no jurisdiction over.
Job action would have been better but that would have no effect either.
Bingo, we have a winner here. Simply hilarious when you think about it.

You make it sound like the mandates are cost free. The end of mandates would settle everything in everyone’s favour.
The mandates have a reason. No one likes that this damned Bug is still causing havoc with our hospitals, but it is. The protesters need to find their stiff upper lip and deal with it until it's over.

I have begun to wonder how future relations between Canada and the U.S. could potentially begin to change - should Canada proceed more down an authoritarian path and (hopefully) the U.S. get back to a healthy regard for freedom and choice. Even with covid vaccines, Trudeau's first instinct was to team up with China.

It's a bit much to call this an insurrection. If they were trying to overthrow the results of an election and undermine the Constitution, sure. This is a protest, but they ****ed with boarder safety, international trade, and the local businesses putting people's livelihoods in jeopardy. So it was deemed illegal and needed to be cleared out.
"Insurrection" is covered by our National Defence Act. The Act doesn't specifically define "insurrection" but the commonly accepted definition is an attempt to overthrow government, usually by force of violence. Nothing remotely like that happened.

It's a little confusing, but it sure seems like a Canadian law to me.

The hyperbole pile is getting pretty big here.

Whenever labor decides to strike (which in essence is a protest) ultimately consumers are affected. It may be inconvenient but it's how they manage to draw attention (and possible resolution) to their cause. I've had to inconvenienly shop at other stores because workers were picketing outside the stores and I wouldn't cross the picket lines. Life sometimes isn't convenient.
Are you trying to call this a strike? You might want to check with the truckers' union about that.

So why are those dumbass truckers in Ottawa? It's the American mandate that affects their livelihoods.

It's a little confusing, but it sure seems like a Canadian law to me.

Truckers are subject to restrictions in both directions. Canadian truckers going to the US have to be vaccinated, and vice-versa.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has confirmed Jan. 22 as the date Canadian truckers will need to be fully vaccinated to enter the country.

The long-expected move follows Canada’s own vaccination mandate for truck drivers and other essential workers that went into effect Jan. 15.

Well the Police are clearing a large area where that crap can be piled

I thought I made it clear enough that I was comparing it to a strike. They share similarities.

TBH this is not comparable to a strike

Everything old is new again. Hey government -- GET OFF MY LAWN!

From the archives: 1987 seatbelt law divides Albertans

It's been 29 years since Alberta introduced its mandatory seatbelt law amid protest from many drivers who felt the province was too heavily dictation how they drive.

Much to Biden's chagrin, US truckers do not have to be vaccinated if they are working for companies that employ more than 100 employees.

t's a little confusing, but it sure seems like a Canadian law to me.
I'll it this way...
  1. A Canadian trucker leaves Canada using the Ambassador Bridge.
  2. He arrives at US customs and is asked to present proof of vaccination
  3. He doesn't have any so he is denied entry and returns to Canada
How on earth does it help him that Canada dropped the vaccine mandate when he can't leave Canada in the first place?

Yep. That's how civil disobedience works.
MLK had that figured out the first time he was arrested. It didn't stop him from choosing to get arrested 28 more times. Eventually he got what he wanted.

Oh please, if BLM used the same tactics as the truckers in Ottawa, conservatives would demand the RCMP come in and bust them up.

Conservatives complain about liberal hypocrisy, but conservatives are the ultimate hypocrites.

They want their small-government ideology to apply only to themselves and they want their law and order agenda to apply to anyone they don't like, they don't want freedom for all, but privileges for themselves.

It's a little confusing, but it sure seems like a Canadian law to me.

They have to show proof of vaccination to enter the US in the first place.

Foreign Truckers Must Be Vaccinated to Enter US Starting Jan. 22

What do those guys want from Trudeau anyway? Do they think he can influence American policy?
It's just plain stupid for them to accept showing proof of vaccination to go south and then get all missy about showing the same proof to come back.
It's all bullshit. They Don't like wearing masks at the mall, That's what they're protesting but Trudeau Can't affect that either. Those things are provincial or local government issues or company policy.
"If you don't start getting better grades you're gonna end up driving a truck!"
