Oolite is a game based on the 1984 Acornsoft publisher Elite, for Acornsoft computers. It was converted for Amiga, Comadore 64 and IBM PC in the late 1980's.

It's a space combat and space trader game. The basic function is to travel to different areas in a galaxy or between galaxy's and make money by either trading, raiding traders, mining, or taking on specific missions.

This game was ported and recreated for Mac, Linux and Windows about 5-6 years ago and is addictive as hell. There are additional missions which can be downloaded with new ships, abilities, functions etc which expand the game by 300% from the original. While Elite was wireframe, Oolite feels 3D. It's added shading and textures without compromising it's "old school" charm.

It's free... and works on Mac, Linux and PC and the OXP (Expansion packs) are also free. I've now been addicted to this damn game. It's not a big program, doesn't take up much space (unless you really load up on the expansions) and I'm just passing it forward.

I got to tell you, for space trading/combat sims nothing I've ever seen beats this old favorite of mine, original Privateer.

Thanks, I've been dying for new games now that I've beaten Corporation Inc. and hit a dead end in Infectonator 2.
