We really, REALLY need a rule about shit posting, or off topic posting.

And if it is already a rule, we need a LOT better enforcement.

Threads are fluid...

Obviously. From Forum Rule #3:

Trolling is a diversionary tactic of those who “deliberately exploit tendencies of human nature or of an online community to upset people” or those “who post inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages” to disrupt normal on-topic discussions.’”

Since the topic is off topic posting I think I'm adhering to policy. 😆

Yep, as you typically do:

Who's the next scumbag criminal to be appointed by the malignant narcissist scumbag piece of shit liar grifter rapist seditionist felon serial adulterer and tax cheat?

That rule requires the purpose be to disrupt the thread. Oft times it just a matter of how conversations flow.
Come on Callen.

There is plenty, A LOT, of needless deflection, and outright trolling that gets left alone.

It is not how the conversation has flown in a lot of cases.

Sorry, I just don't see it as that disruptive or annoying

Most days, I just pass it on by but it is both, non-productive discussion and downright rude.

Other days, it is downright infuriating, and when i post in kind, I get reprimanded.

The rules are the rules I suppose. If it needs moderation, then I guess it needs reporting. That could be a full time job for someone.

Or in other words if you cannot think of a rebuttal to what is said, then start complaining it's off topic.
There need be no rebuttal to shit posts, except for gtfo.

That;s why they are called shit posts. Don't feed the trolls.

Such a trivial thing to worry about, really, let the mods do their job!

But this is DP. Rules violations seem to be reported only for punitive actions against posters whose opinions create butthurt feelings.

Sometimes I come across someone who will use the old strawman complaint when they cannot think up a suitable reply to something I have said. When I ask them to be specific about what they think i said is a strawman I usually get ilence as a response. That is an example of someone pretending something is off topic when in fact it is merely a dishonest attempt to avoid answering.
It's a debate tactic and should be taken as you have wasted enough time and effort on someone who has reached their limit.

Certainly possible (and I have seen it) so rest assured that others have seen it as well and know exactly what it is.

We typically deal with threads going off-topic when reported. We also deal with those who consistently take threads off-topic as well. No need to create a new rule when it already exists.
