Olympics have started!

YEah the delay of game call was super BS. And I will agree that the PK should have never happened because there shouldn't have been a delay of game penalty should have never been called. However, the more I watched the handball play itself, the more I think that was the right call from a bad call. Saying that though, let's not act like Canada did not get away with a lot that game too. They had been hitting and pulling Morgan all game.

Sometime in the first half, an American player committed a handball in the goal area right in front of the ref. She didn't call for a penalty kick to the dismay of the Canadian players. Funny enough, it was the same type of handball... where a player was protecting herself and it happened to hit her hand. If there was some consistency in how the ref called the game, the final result might have been different. Unfortunately, the ****ing stupid excuse of a referee decided that she'd dictate play rather than the players. Sad and pathetic.

And the clutching, grabbing, shoving and shirt pulling is what happens in high level soccer. My "career" ended when they had to ply me from the ground after doing a 360 over my goalie. The girls on the other team made sure I got hurt more by breaking a few ribs and kicking me in the head when I was down. That was my final division 1 game, and it took many more years afterwards before I wanted to play--ever at a recreational level--again.

There was a long, long way to go until victory, which makes what happened next so crushing and also so bizarre.

Around the 78th minute, the ball found its way back to Canadian goalkeeper, Erin McLeod. The American forwards were pressing high up the pitch. McLeod was looking for a chance to outlet the ball to a fullback, rather than to launch it up the field. Eventually, she gave in and hoofed it forward. But Pedersen had blown her whistle.

She called a foul on McLeod for a six-second violation — time wasting in other words, though nobody’s foolish enough to begin eating the clock with nearly a half hour to go.

No warning was given, according to McLeod. That’s the form — warning first. You want another theme? This has been the Army Olympics, the Empty Olympics and the Angry Olympics. Now it’s the Making Things Up As You Go The Hell Along Olympics.

Regardless of the warning, how often is that call made?

“I’ve never seen that before,” U.S. coach Pia Sundhage said afterward. Sundhage has worked in the game since they used mammoth tusks for goalposts.

She’s never seen it because that call is never made. Never.

And in a one-goal game in which a gold medal hangs in the balance, it should be made never to the power of infinity.

On the ensuing free kick inside the Canadian area, the ball cannoned into the protective arm of Marie-Eve Nault. That’s probably a penalty. That’s how Pedersen called it. The problem was that Pedersen and her crew had ignored an even more blatant handball in the area by American Megan Rapinoe 10 minutes before.

But the game was truly lost when Pedersen lost control of her senses and called what is the footballing equivalent of a high-risk takedown after a rolling stop.

After the call, Canadian players rushed Pedersen.

“I said, ‘I hope you can sleep tonight. Put on your American jersey. That’s who you played for today,’” Tancredi said, voice shaking. “I was honest.”

As captain, Sinclair asked Pedersen for an explanation.

“She actually giggled and said nothing,” Sinclair said. “Classy.”

seriously though I think we need to start making the US swim team wear arm bands to give the rest of the world a chance! Amazing to watch, thank you team USA once again for a great 7 days in the pool.

the real amazing thing is that our best athletes rarely train in olympic sports.

That penalty kick was utterly bogus. That ref must have smoked a lot of crack before the game. Sorry, the Americans did not deserve to win.

Take that as payback for stealing my hockey team :2razz:

Most dominant athlete of the games so far?

Not Michael Phelps-he lost a race

Not Gabby Douglas-she came in last in an individual event

Its Serena Williams

In three Matches she beat last Year's Number one 0 and 3, beat the woman who was number one most of this year Victoria Azarenka 1 and 2 and then wombed stomped and gift wrapped Current No 1 Shriekapova LOVE AND ONE

in other words, she gave up 7 games in three matches to the top three women in the world. THIRTY SIX games to SEVEN and on top of that she and her sister blew away the doubles competition.

she is now the only person in history to win

All Grand Slam singles titles
all Grand Slam Doubles titles
Olympic Gold in both Singles and doubles

that is utter domination by the obvious #1 female athlete in the world

If I were Canada, I would withdraw from the games in protest.

It was a bad day all-together for Canada. First, the equestrian team lost a member in the team event because her horse had the equivalent of a paper cut on it's leg (and was wrongly disqualified), then the soccer fiasco.

Paris, I kind of wonder, however, if you have an alternative motive. Canada is now slated to play the French women for the bronze. If they protest, then the French would win in a walkover. :2razz: I hope they do take the high road and give it their all. It should be another good game and I hope this time around, the player will dictate the winner and not the ref.

As much as I admire her skill, I simply have a hard time getting excited about Serena Williams.

You would still win the bronze. The French would surrender it to you before the game began.

I don't know, May and Walsh have been pretty dominate in beach volleyball.

What about the American handball? Think that was a missed call?

I am not a huge Serena fan either-seen her tank too many matches here in Cincinnati But she destroyed the top three women and in the round before that She took apart a former top three player (Vera Z) 1 and 1 as well

Doubt it. We'll win with a hand goal like we did against the Irish.

I think it was a bad call no call. However, on the parts of the game, I thought it was classy of the Canadians to stop the game for the injured American, and I was happy that Morgan made sure she wasn't most likely illegal slide tackled in the box for a PK. Sinclair was a beast.

Sharapova was playing so well and Serena completely destroyed her. I would say that she is at the top of her game, playing the best she's ever has heading into the US Open.

Should you Yanks win gold, you should send an honorary one to that crap of a sorry excuse of a ref.

She's Norwegian, and probably too drunk to care.

I don't know much about soccer, but happened to actually watch today's game between Canada and USA. I expected Canada to win, because they were the favorites and up until the 3-3 tie, they always had the lead. When the USA won in overtime, I was happy and excited. Then I came here and see that everyone is mad and wants us to lose the gold. Now my feathers are drooping, and I'm not excited any more. :(

Our women have to make up in calls for how bad our men get ****ed over. Even Richard Simmons won't touch that ass they have taken it up the ass that much.
