Since when is deliberately putting your child onto some train tracks a mountain out of a molehill?
 
On the one hand, there was absolutely positively zero chance of a train rolling through there.

On the other hand, anybody who brings a 4 year-old child to a protest needs to be clubbed like a baby seal.

This. I really wish adults would stop using their children as pawns for their cause, regardless of what it is. Just. Stop. These kids don't know what they're saying, they don't when they're in danger, it's manipulative and low. I'm sick of it.

They happen to raise them, and if they have that right then they have the right to bring them to a rally. Passing political persuasions down through ones progeny is the traditional method anyways.... this may be another argument though. I sympathise with your position but it doesnt usurp the right to either politicize or raise children religiously for example.

I rarely watch videos in these threads (I suspect that the same is true of the vast majority of participants in forums such as this one), but this time, I did. Here's a still clip from that video, clearly showing the approaching train:



The narration explains that a group of protesters were trying to stop that train, by blocking the tracks. The mother herself is shown saying something about how she doesn't think the train's engineer would run over a bunch of people. I guess none of these idiots have any idea how long it can take to stop a freight train.

I really, really, really hate to say this concerning an innocent child, but in this case, if whatever stupidity it is that this woman has might be hereditary, then it would have been a great boon to the human race to remove this woman and her offspring from the human gene pool.

This is even more amusing...and disturbing from a child welfare perspective...than that guy in Oakland trying to stop a pickup truck with his body. Almost got his ass run over.

The only reason I could think of for that happening is that they didn't know those idiots were on the tracks. There's simply no way that a freight engineer would go near a set of tracks he knew to be loaded with idiots, and there's simply no way the dispatcher wouldn't warn him.
 

In some locations the trains are controlled by remote,so there might not even be an engineer inside controlling the train.
 

That train isn't moving. Even if the conductor decided it would be a good idea to run over all the demonstrators and murder them in cold blood, by the time it reached the people lying on the track it would be going a terrifying ~5 MPH. Certainly not enough time to move out of the way. :roll:

Exactly how was there zero chance of a train rolling through there? And the mother said she had faith in humanity. That makes her an even bigger danger to her child.

I was working under the assumption that since this was part of a protest of which the public knew, the company operating the rail line would also know, and as such wouldn't route trains down a track with people on it until it was cleared.
