The Obamas could be in for a $45 million payday from book deals after leaving the White House, the New York Times reports.

Those sums are enough to pay the estimated $22,000 monthly rent in the Washington mansion the Obamas reportedly plan to move into. And they'd be left with enough spare change to buy that rented summer home on Martha's Vineyard.

So the guy that ran for presidency partly based on his image as not being another greedy old white guy, turned out to be a greedy old black guy.

Who here is actually going to read Obama's next book?

1. Will I read his book? Probably not.
2. Why do you hate capitalism?
3. I'm going to guess you didn't make a thread anywhere about George W. Bush writing a book, which he did.

If somebody is stupid enough to pay Obama that kind of money for a book deal, more power to him.

Why would you care how much Obama is going to make?

How many books do you figure?

Surely one of the kids will want to do one. Are Sunny and Bo going to do theirs together or separate?

I dont figure Mr Lazy Bones Who Wants To Make A Difference and who is BRILLIANT! will turn down too many offers to scribe.

What's so greedy about taking the highest offer, and why should we care?

So what?

As long as it is private money - why would you care where he gets his money from?

And where did he say that he was against being rich?

You sound just plain bitter about the guy.

I thought he did a lousy job as POTUS (I thought every one in recent history has as well), but I don't care if he gets rich from book deals.

You dont care about an Obama book?

I bet he writes one about Chicago.

Gotta reconnect and all.

Cause of the museum.

You Know.

I was commenting on the book deal itself.

But yeah, I'll probably get it.

I've got both "Memoirs of My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope". He's a pretty good writer!

Obama has sold tons of copies of his books. I'm curious to see how a "lazy bones" is being lazy by writing, which, contrary to the belief of many morons, is actually work.

It's actually "Dreams From My Father," and I've only read excerpts. I hate political memoirs.

In the minds of many, Obama is literally incapable of doing anything right.

Hell, even I give GWB credit for some stuff. The depth with which they hate Obama is so black and soulless that even writing a book is cause for derision.

There is to this day some debate on whether it is capacity or rather it is the will that is the problem.

I will say this, if Obama either spends the next 20 years writing great books about whatever, or he runs a major university, he will have done more good post presidency than anyone else I have seen.

I have not counted the prick out yet.

I despise partisan politics...the automatic assumption that if you run for the 'other' party then you must be virtual scum and one's mind is practically closed to the possibility of decency in the 'enemy'.

It is destroying America, imo.

The flip side is hero worship. The notion that your candidate is not capable of doing anything substantially wrong.

Like most things, politicians are grey...neither all bad nor all good.

That would be a bad business deal on the part of the publisher. If they are stupid enough to offer him that much he would be stupid not to take it.

But it's not a political memoir at all.

It's a coming of age story, and ends at his acceptance into Harvard Law. It's pretty well written, IMO.

Edit: And he wrote it while still in Law School, so there's no politics in it; he simply was a student who wanted to be a writer.

You don't think the mansion is being paid for by some Clinton machine like the Foundation? That would be odd, unless it is a company or NGO in which President Clinton is on the board for $1 pa.

Even so, I'd rather read me some manga than that.

We could have had a good writer instead of what he became? ;)

What would be ironic is for you to buy a copy just to set it on fire.

If you elect to do so, please do so in a safe manner that complies with the law.

It's still a memoir. Very little interest in it. Just not my kind of book readin'.

Yes; unfortunately, that debate is held between morons, with no opinions other than "Obama always bad, why?" allowed.

If I had that grueling job for eight years, I'd go all out.

If I were Obama, my post-presidential memoir would be called "Mic Drop," and it would be basically mother****ing everyone who's mother****ed him over the last eight years.

I have never seen a president get as purposely buttrammed by the opposition party AND HIS OWN PARTY as often as Obama. And I hit my political-news-junkie prime in the Clinton era.

I have serious issues with Obama's presidency, but anyone who tries to seriously claim that either party has kowtowed to him is either drunk or high.
