Obama scraps visit to wounded troops

BERLIN (AP) - Sen. Barack Obama scrapped plans to visit wounded members of the armed forces in Germany as part of his overseas trip, a decision his spokesman said was made because the Democratic presidential candidate thought it would be inappropriate on a campaign-funded journey.
The spokesman, Robert Gibbs, said Thursday that Obama made his decision out of respect for the servicemen and women, but Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign immediately criticized the move.

"Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military," said Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the Republican contender.

What an asshole!

I guess we see that king Obama care more for the German people than the troops. Transparent and shallow.

I would have to strongly disagree with you on this. I can appreciate his reasoning for not visiting the troops. It would seem opportunistic and insincere if he were visiting wounded troops on the campaign trail. He did the right thing.

here is the genuine thing to do. tell the press to take a break while he goes by himself.....

But he's claiming he's not on the campaign trail...

i guess its the presidential "i gotta wash my hair" excuse he's givin the troops.

I wouldn't have a problem with tax dollars being spent for that leg of the trip. Anything that's good for the troops is worth it. I wish "Messiah" saw it that way.

Would you like to step back into reality here?

THE "PRESS" WILL NOT LET THAT HAPPEN!!!!!

I think the pattern of desperation in these threads is beginning to reach an epic proportion.....do you think that the anti-Obama crowd is feeling a little nervous right now?

Nope. Elections a long way off. I see no need for McCain to spend resources right now trying to grab the spotlight while Obama's having his Obamapalooza Tour with 3 network names traveling with him.

But Obama's gotta come back to the States sometime. I am interested to see what happens when the bluster of this meaningless charade is over. I'm also figuring it might be a couple days before the backlash of this is really gonna hit. Hopefully right about the time he finishes up at Customs coming back in.

We all know McCain's campaign doesn't believe it's ever inappropriate to visit soldiers. Not even when you're pandering for votes or ridiculous photo-ops.

"McCain can never do any wrong", "Obama is wrong wrong wrong wrong" and "Obama supporters are religious obamaholics"

I'd love to see the dismay of the partisan hacks come November when it's "in your face" for them.

What we're seeing from the anti-obama crowd though is to be expected. They're embarrassed and upset that their own candidate is performing very poorly, they know they don't have a chance come November so they're desperately grasping at every single little upset that Obama may or may not have made and trying to portray it negatively.

Obama welcomed by hudreds of thousands of German citizens in Berlin - WHO THE **** HE THINK HE IS? The president of the US??? He's not running for office of Germany he's running for office of the United states!
Change the title Obama booed by hundred of thousands of German citizens in Berlin - Clearly Obama doesn't know how to deal with our European allies

Obama doesn't visit the troops - FOUL!!! He doesn't care about the troops!!!
Switch the title Obama vists wounded troops. - FOUL!!! he's politicizing the troops!!

Quite sad when this crowd can't see beyond zealotry.

YES! Look at McCain and then look at Obama! Can you blame them? ;)

Yea, photo ops with crippled soldiers isn't very appealing. Easier to hide them away, like the homeless in Denver, than be seen in less than ideal circumstances.

He disrespects our soldiers, bad mouths our country, and embraces the young socialists of Germany.

The best part though, American voters are keeping track of all this.

Even if that happened the "press" would still be their.

How would the press be able to step foot on a military installation if the guards do not allow them?

This is one of those no win situations. If he had gone ahead and visited the troops, the right would be up in arms over that. If the did what he did, they would call him anti troops or whatever they are calling him now.

Personally I think he made the wrong choice and should have visited the troops and if denied by the Bushagon err Pentagon, then there would be a big story.

EXACTLY!.....all we have seen from our friends on the right for the last two days is an endless dribble of double speak.
No matter what Obama does....they criticize...but then again.....they got nothing to say about their guy...so they are all in attack mode. Desperation is rarely pretty.

somebody is not paying attention.....

McCain sucks. he is no better than obama.

please try to keep up.

love the making ****e up tactic of debating style. why have substance when you can post made up nonsensical crap like this.

Has McCain visted any wounded troops yet?

I tried a Google search but found nothing.

Careful you are not allowed to question McCain on military issues.. he is a heeeeerrooo after all.

It was an innocent question - I figured that if McCain was going to get all uppity about Obama not visiting the wounded and even saying "it is never innappropriate to visit them" - then he must have done so himself...?

Bit hypocritical otherwise of him to say such a thing and not have done so....

Sorry Reverend, I'm not American - I'm neither left or right, neither a jew hater nor a jew lover. I don't even get to vote as I'm not an American citizen.

I just like truth and honesty.

To me the real story here is one of hypocrisy - McCain's hypocrisy. Maybe you don't see it?

I would still however appreciate a link to where McCain has visited wounded american troops himself if you can find one?
