Dumbest thing I've ever heard. "We'll definitely release it" "No, it might make people mad we can't release it."
Dumb.. .all around dumb.
Kernel Sanders, why shouldn't the phote be available via internet as proof of Ladin's death? Obviously we have worse photos on the internet.
It isn't dumb to not want to endanger our troops. It isn't dumb to not want to flamebait - even the political forums agree that flamebaiting is bad.
What is it you wish to be accomplished by showing a picture of someone with a hole in his head? I think it is a wise decision, and had been hoping that is what he would do, and as usual, he didn't disappoint me.
Doesn't bother me either way. I'd prefer it to be released, it's nothing we haven't seen in a slasher movie and the like.
Would make a nice T-shirt with Property of The Government of the United States of America on the front, and Since May 1, 2011... Property of Arabian Sea Frozen Foods Company with a box of fish sticks with said logo on the back.
.
Killing Bin Laden endangers our troops far more then any picture. It isn't dumb to not want to endanger our troops. It isn't dumb to not want to flamebait - even the political forums agree that flamebaiting is bad.

U.S. lifts photo ban on military coffins
In a reversal of an 18-year-old military policy that critics said was hiding the ultimate cost of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the news media will now be allowed to photograph the flag-draped coffins of America’s war dead as their bodies are returned to the United States, but only if the families of the dead agree.
The decision, which Defense Secretary Robert Gates announced Thursday, lifts a 1991 blanket ban on such photographs put in place under President George Bush. It chiefly affects coffins arriving from Iraq and Afghanistan that go through Dover Air Force Base in Delaware.
The military said the ban protected the privacy and dignity of families of the dead. But others, including some of the families as well as opponents of the Iraq war, said it sanitized the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and was intended to control public anger over the conflicts.
Last time I checked Gates works for Obummer.

Maybe Panetta's Republican roots took over - act before you think?I love how some folks claim I said Obama said anything, I'm referring to the entire situation.
Panetta comes out saying they'll most likely be released, then Obama says no let's not piss anyone off..
It's the hem hawing that went on, publicly, DUMB. I also highly disagree with the basis being "it will endanger our troops..."
I'm sure they were upset over the killing of OBL, but surely they knew that was a possibility, otherwise why did they go to such lengths to protect him? There is a thin line between doing what is right and then getting carried away. Showing pictures of the dead body serves no purpose. What does it do for you?Killing the man did that, pictures won't make a difference, it's silly. Besides, it'll leak out in due time.
So, to you the coffin of a dead person is the same as showing the dead person, especially one that has been shot in the head? That figures.I thought this was very interesting. So it's ok to photograph all the coffins of the dead soldiers, but protect Osamas privacy.
I'm so glad you belong to that other party, you represent them well.Good job, you idiot-n-chief.
Or is it that people don't believe the guy is dead and that this is some massive cover up? Honestly, what is the reason?
By not releasing the long form death certificate, Obama's only bringing it on himself.
Why did you cave in to me, Dittohead?

Again, Obama lacks the ability to process data
It is very important strategically that UBL's body be shown to the world.
To show off OBL's dead body to the world would serve as a clear warning to our enemies. That they will be killed for certain activities.
Better yet, drag him out of the ocean and hang his corpse in front of the White House under a sign saying "Terrorist, ye be warned"
That would be sure to cut down on terrorism and anti-American sentiments
